How did a compound once studied for Alzheimer’s disease become part of a new approach to treating schizophrenia?
In 2024, the FDA approved Cobenfy, a combination of xanomeline and trospium chloride, for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. It became the first approved antipsychotic for schizophrenia that targets cholinergic receptors rather than dopamine receptors.
