How do I know if I have a bunion?
The easiest way to identify a bunion is by taking a close look at the shape of your foot. If you notice a bulge or bump on the outside of your foot near the base of your big toe, you likely have a bunion. Additional symptoms include:
Redness, tenderness, or swelling near your big toe joint
Limited mobility of your big toe joint
Corns or calluses, especially at the point where your first and second toes overlap
If you notice these or other foot symptoms, schedule a diagnostic exam. Bunions share symptoms with several other conditions, including arthritis, hallux rigidus, neuromas, bursitis, and capsulitis.

Surgeons Warn: Skateboarding Tough on Feet, Ankles
Board tricks, repeated foot impact can lead to serious injury.
Children and young adults love the thrill of skateboarding. They learn to master their skills of "riding the rail" and "catching air." But according to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), such tricks, while fun, can be physically demanding and can cause serious foot and ankle injuries.
Foot and ankle surgeons around the country warn they continue to see serious lower-extremity skateboard injuries among their patients. These injuries range from minor bruises to open wounds or cuts to more serious foot and ankle sprains and fractures, which may require surgical repair

Is Foot Pain Ruining Your Golf Swing?
As you head to your favorite golf course this spring, make sure your feet are in shape before approaching the tee box. Your big toe, heel and ball of your foot are the spots most likely to cause pain that can ruin your golf swing.
Behind these pain-prone spots can lie stiff joints, stretched-out tissues and even nerve damage. But pain relief is possible and frequently does not require surgery.

Some of the more common sports injuries include:
Ankle sprains
Muscle strains
Tendonitis
Fractures
Bone bruising
Joint dislocation
Achilles tendon rupture
Many minor sports injuries will improve after a few days of rest, ice, elevation, and compression. If self-care efforts don’t lead to improvements, however, it’s important to seek medical care.

How are tendon injuries treated?
Your tendons are soft bands of tissue that connect muscle to bone. Tendons don’t have significant blood flow and can’t heal easily. Very often, surgery is required to repair extensive tendon damage.
Tendon repair can usually be performed via small incisions. Dr. Jenson can repair tendon tears or reattach tendons to the appropriate muscles or bones.
For example, posterior tibialis tendon surgery addresses damage to the tendon that connects the muscles on the back of your calf to the bones on the interior side of your foot. In some cases, a tendon from another area is used to complete the necessary repairs
