👓 Does LASIK Wear Off?

It's one of the most common questions people ask before LASIK, and the short answer is no.

LASIK permanently reshapes your cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. The correction itself doesn't "wear off."

So why do some people notice changes in their vision years later?

As we age, our eyes naturally change. Around your 40s, many people develop presbyopia, which makes reading up close more difficult. Later in life, cataracts can also affect vision. These are normal age-related changes and are not caused by LASIK.

👀 What Happens If I Blink During LASIK?

It's one of the most common questions we hear, and the answer surprises most people.

You don't have to worry about blinking during LASIK.

During the procedure, a small device gently keeps your eyelids open, so you physically can't blink. Your surgeon will also ask you to focus on a target light while an advanced eye-tracking system follows even the tiniest eye movements in real time.

If your eye moves, the laser adjusts with it. If movement falls outside the treatment area, the laser automatically pauses until your eye is back in the correct position.

The procedure itself only takes a few minutes per eye, and your surgeon is with you every step of the way, talking you through the entire process.

Caring for patients has no borders. Please join us in celebrating Dr. Kirk Drennan, who recently served with the Utah Air National Guard during Exercise Amistad 2026 in Asunción, Paraguay.
As both an optometrist at Hoopes Vision and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, Dr. Drennan joined fellow National Guard medical professionals to provide vision care, collaborate with local healthcare teams, and help strengthen access to eye care in communities across Paraguay.

One of Dr. Drennan's greatest strengths is his ability to connect with patients in their own language. Fluent in Spanish, he was able to communicate directly with patients, explain their eye health, and work alongside Paraguayan providers to share knowledge that will continue benefiting patients long after the mission ended.
