Recently, Melanie and Amy from SafeSpace were honored to attend the Mother’s Purse event hosted by the GFWC Woman's Club of Stuart. Formerly known as Less is More! A Treasure Coast Purse Collection, this meaningful event was originally started by Kelly Hawkins and continues to make a lasting impact in our community. 💜

During the event, Melanie shared information about SafeSpace, the services we provide, and the impact our organization has on survivors and families throughout our community. We are incredibly grateful for opportunities like this to connect with others, raise awareness, and witness the generosity and compassion of those who support our mission.

It almost didn’t happen.

She had an interview lined up. A chance to start over, support herself, and build something stable for her child.

But there were two things in the way: Childcare. And something as simple as what to wear.

No backup plan. No extra money. No room for error.

This is where SafeSpace stepped in.

An advocate helped her access professional clothing so she could show up with confidence. Through a local partnership, she was also connected to affordable childcare so she could actually take the job.

She made it to the interview. Her child was safely enrolled in daycare. And for the first time in a long time, things started moving forward.

Sometimes safety isn’t just about leaving. It’s about removing the barriers that keep someone from rebuilding.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important to recognize the deep connection between domestic violence and mental health. 💜

Survivors may experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other lasting effects, but with the right support, healing is possible. SafeSpace provides a safe place to turn with emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy, and resources designed to support both safety and mental well-being.
