❓ Are you looking for a way to make a meaningful impact in the lives of newcomer youth this Summer?
Volunteer with the 2026 IRC Newcomer Youth Summer Academy to help support middle and high school students from Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties through programming focused on:
School readiness
Social-emotional development
Youth leadership
College & career preparation
English language development
Community-building and mentorship
The Summer Academy will run from July 6- August 6, 2026, Monday through Thursday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM, at a school site in Landover Hills, Maryland. The exact location will be shared with volunteers following onboarding.
Middle School Cohort: July 6th – July 16th
High School Cohort: July 27th – August 6th
Volunteer requirements:
All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
All volunteers must complete a background check and attend an in-person training on Monday, June 29th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
All volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from site.

For World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue & Development, the IRC celebrates the many cultures and languages humanitarian immigrants bring to the DMV community.
To promote inclusivity and ensure accessible communication, the IRC in Silver Spring provides cost-effective in-person and over-the-phone interpretation services in over 44 languages. Our services make communication accessible for Limited English Proficient (LEP) populations in healthcare, legal, education, business, and community organizations.
When every culture is understood and valued, stronger and more inclusive communities become possible.

In March, we highlighted the strength of one mother and her family as they navigated the American maternal healthcare system alongside guidance from the IRC in Silver Spring’s Intensive Case Management team.

🪥 The IRC in Silver Spring recognizes Katie, an IRC volunteer, and John Poole Middle School (JPMS) in Poolesville, Maryland for donating 13 hygiene kits to support newcomers transitioning into their new lives. Since October 2025, the IRC distributed 55 hygiene kits to newcomers in need through our Welcome Donation Shop.
💛 We are so grateful for Katie and the JPMS community for committing their time and resources to the IRC in Silver Spring’s clients.
