It is with deep sadness that the Red River Revel mourns the passing of our former Executive Director, Kip Holloway. He passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, after a brief illness.

Kip Holloway was a key member of the team that founded the Red River Revel Arts Festival in 1976 and then became the Executive Director in 1987, where he served in that role for over 25 years. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to the organization and played a pivotal role in advancing the mission of arts education in the region. Holloway was a visionary leader who dedicated his life to creating a more beautiful and vibrant community through his work at the Red River Revel Arts Festival. Under his guidance, the Red River Revel achieved several milestones including receiving the 1988 President’s Volunteer Action Award from President Ronald Regan, being an integral part of the creation of Festival Plaza and being honored with dozens of regional and national awards. He was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working with him. His passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment will be greatly missed.

“There is almost not a single day that goes by where Kip Holloway's influence and legacy are felt, or a story shared from his time as Executive Director. The impacts that he had on the Red River Revel and the Ark-La-Tex are still being realized today and we were lucky to have him. I am very appreciative of the example he set while leading the Revel,” said Logan Lewis, Executive Director of the Red River Revel.

The Red River Revel extends its deepest condolences to Kip Holloway’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate through this loss.

The Red River Revel is in the process of planning a special celebration to honor Kip Holloway’s legacy during the 48th Annual Red River Revel Arts Festival. More information to be announced in the upcoming weeks.

The official poster artwork for the 48th Annual Red River Revel Arts Festival was painted by New Orleans-based and Jackson Square certified artist Jason Rodriguez and features vibrant colors with symbols unique to our state and imagery inspired by the Dia de los Mu***os traditional Mexican holiday.

“The “Spirit of Louisiana” piece was inspired by the rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking beauty that surrounds us in the South,” said Rodriguez. “Drawing inspiration from the Spanish influence and iconic imagery of the region, we set out to create a dreamy landscape that also captures the weird essence of our art.”

Jason Rodriguez and his wife, Heather, form a dynamic professional artist team, seamlessly blending their talents to create captivating paintings and murals. More information about the artists and their work can be found at Art87jr or at www.thewonderlandgallery.com.

This piece is funded by a competitive grant from the Community Foundation of North Louisiana to produce a celebration of Latino art, dance, and music within the festival programming.

The Red River Revel is extremely grateful to the Community Foundation of North Louisiana for a $42,500 grant award for Revel #48 programming! This grant was made possible through the generosity of the Carolyn Nelson Memorial Fund.

CFNLA's favorite time of the year has arrived: grant award presentation season! This year, CFNLA awarded over $3 million through our Competitive Grants process. Throughout the summer, our staff has the opportunity to visit the grantees and present them with their award.

Yesterday, CFNLA’s Grants Officer, Garrett Johnson presented Red River Revel with a $42,500 grant award! This grant was made possible through the generosity of the Carolyn Nelson Memorial Fund. As Mrs. Nelson served on the boards of the Shreveport Art Guild, the Shreveport Regional Arts Council, Downtown Shreveport Unlimited, and many others (including the Community Foundation!) it was fitting that her legacy would fund the work of the Red River Revel.

The Revel's mission is support art and art education, and a big part of its history is lifting up the musicians and bands of the region. One challenge we face is the skyrocketing cost of nationally-touring artists and musicians post-pandemic. For example, artists who played at the Revel just 5 years ago now cost three to four times as much! While popular music is needed to draw the audience to the festival, this change has put a strain on our organization's ability to equitably hire local and regional musicians.
