There are two ways to work with us. You can start with an empty lot, designing your home from the ground up with nothing predetermined and everything possible. Or you can start with what's already there.
A barn. An older home. A structure with good bones and more life left in it than people might expect. We work with you to see what it could become, then design toward that.
Both paths lead to the same place: a high-performance home, guided by a process we've been refining since 2013.

Already planning a major home project?
If you're adding on, re-siding, or reconfiguring, there may be more opportunity in that work than you think. Renovation design at BrightBuilt starts the same way every project does: with a clear look at what's possible.
Better performance, more comfort, lower energy bills.

How about not one, but two opportunities this June to step inside a high-performance home and imagine your own?
We're hosting two open houses, and our team, as well as the homeowners, will be there to walk you through the layout, talk through the design process, and answer your questions about energy efficiency, off-site construction, and what it's like to work with BrightBuilt. The general contractor for each home will be on hand too, ready to talk through the building side of things.
Come see how thoughtful design becomes a home that's comfortable, efficient, and made to last.

One of the best parts of our work? Getting to know the builders our clients partner with across New England and beyond. Each outfit has its own character, whether that's the most impressive tool collection or the cutest shop dog.

There's nothing better than designing a home that meets someone right where they are. We're honored Dwell chose to feature Laura's home, a space designed for a brand new chapter. See the full feature on their page.
Laura was ready to start a new chapter. After a divorce and the pandemic, which made working from anywhere a real possibility, she decided to make a move from Wi******er, Massachusetts, to her favorite place in the country: midcoast Maine. She envisioned a cozy hideaway in a friendly community somewhere that valued the arts and the outdoors, and a hub for her two grown children and their families. But there was one major issue with this plan: Laura didn’t like any of the homes she toured in those areas. “I was driving here frequently to check out listings, and during one of those trips, my son turned up one [listing] for land and we stopped by and fell in love instantly,” Laura says of a property they found in St. George. “On my second visit, a neighbor walked over to say hello and offered to answer any questions, which helped make my decision easier.” But then a second issue came into play. “I was naive in thinking that building would be less expensive than buying a new house, or at least not more expensive,” she says, after seeing an estimate. At this point, a friend in Maine directed her to Bright Built, a Portland prefab company with 20 models to choose from. From the outset, the numbers worked better for Laura, she says. And “since I was going to be building something new, I wanted to minimize my climate footprint and avoid fossil fuels and short-term building materials.” She decided on the Little Diamond model and worked with Jessica Benner, the studio director and co-owner of BrightBuilt, to turn it into her dream home. “I wanted a space where I could host dinners and create art,” Laura says. “I did not want an ostentatious home, but one that would make people happy to be in—including myself.” And with $1,083,142, she got just that. The stone path leads to the porch, the porch to the entry, the entry to the living room and kitchen. A home tour doesn't usually start at the roof. But the solar array is what keeps the energy bill predictable, and the rest of it possible.
The porch cat has other priorities.
Big thanks to keeleycraneservice for landing these boxes!

Late May in Maine means long evenings and the kind of light that makes you feel like you chose exactly the right spot. This farmhouse was designed to sit gently on its hillside, with solar panels doing the quiet work of keeping energy costs low through every long summer day.
Your forever home should feel this good from every angle.
