Honoring our Founder, architect Winton Scott, in his passing
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Winton passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the age of 86. He founded Winton Scott Architects in 1975 as a design focused practice that he led for over 45 years. During this time, the firm produced a wide array of civic, public and private structures throughout Maine that exemplify his design rigor and his belief in the power of architecture to inspire people and connect them to their shared history while embracing their own time.
He not only leaves behind a distinguished legacy of new and restored buildings in Maine and beyond, but he also impacted generations of young architects whom he trained and mentored in his office over the years. He always held himself and those around him to the highest standards of the profession and instilled in us all his passion for and dedication to the pursuit of design excellence.
Winton was a mentor and friend and he will be greatly missed by those of us who had the privilege to work for and with him. We take solace in knowing that his memory will live on in the buildings he created and the professional and personal impact he made on our lives.
