Celebrating 13 Years of Leadership and Service! 👏

Decatur Housing Authority extends its heartfelt appreciation to Melissa Heffner for 13 years of dedicated service, including her leadership as Board Chair.

Throughout her tenure, Melissa has championed DHA’s growth and innovative approaches to expanding affordable housing opportunities in Decatur. Among her proudest accomplishments is helping guide the search for CEO, Larry H. Padilla, and supporting the organization as it entered an exciting new chapter under his leadership.

Melissa leaves DHA strong and well positioned for the future as she passes the torch to incoming Board Chair, Tennielle Bailey.

Thank you, Melissa, for 13 years of leadership, commitment, and service to Decatur Housing and the community.

Decatur Housing will be closed Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day. 🇺🇸

🎓 Welcome Jane — DHI’s New High School Intern!

As Jane completes her senior year at Decatur High School, she selected Decatur Housing as her Work-Based Learning site for the 2026–2027 school year.

Jane kicked off her internship with a tour of our executive office, where she received an overview of our various departments and learned how they work together to support Decatur Housing’s mission and the communities we serve.

We’re excited to have Jane join us and even more excited to see where this experience takes her! Be on the lookout for more posts as we follow her journey, highlight what she learns, and celebrate the impact she makes along the way.

Last week, the Decatur Housing team came together for our Q3 All-Staff Meeting & Summer Kickoff!

We started the day connecting as an organization and sharing updates on the work ahead, then traded the meeting room for some sunshine, great food, games, music, and plenty of laughs. 💙💚

Creating opportunities for our team to connect outside of our day-to-day work is an important part of building a strong workplace and an even stronger organization.

A special thank you to everyone who helped bring the day together, and to Sweet Auburn BBQ and Kona Ice for keeping our team fed and cool! 🍖🍧

Yesterday, our amazing Summer Interns concluded their internship experience at Decatur Housing with Capstone presentations, sharing what they learned, the projects they worked on, and how they've grown over the past several weeks

We're incredibly proud of Aubrey Ward (Development Intern) and Lucas Minshew (Finance Intern) for their hard work, professionalism, and meaningful contributions to Decatur Housing.

Thank you to our mentors, supervisors, and leadership team for investing in the next generation of professionals. We can't wait to see all they accomplish in the future!
