🇳🇬Nigeria is launching a mass campaign to eliminate onchocerciasis. In Oyo State, the effort is supported by Christian Blind Mission (CBM) working with the Oyo State Ministry of Health to support mass drug administration including planning, training, supervision, and data checks.

The 75th meeting of the Mectizan Expert Committee/Albendazole Coordination is in full swing! On Day 1, the committee heard from partners and experts about progress in the campaigns against river blindness and lymphatic filariasis. MEC Chair Gilbert Burnham used his Somali camel bell to summon participants back to the meeting room after a lively coffee break.

PAHO-WHO Director Dr. Jarbas Barbosa and Carter Center VP Dr. Kashef Ijaz signed an agreement today at the World Health Assembly in Geneva to enhance regional collaboration on our mutual river blindness, lymphatic filariasis, and malaria elimination efforts in the Americas. The agreement builds on three decades of working together with ministries of health in the Americas. We look forward to deepening our partnership in the next chapter!

High-level meeting reaffirms shared commitment to strengthen cross-border collaboration and accelerate elimination of malaria and neglected tropical diseases A high-level meeting convened on 20 May on the margins of the Seventy-ninth World Health Assembly brought together global and regional leaders, Member States, donors, partners and technical experts to accelerate progress towards the elimination of malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

Eliminating river blindness in Niger has created an estimated $2.3 billion in economic benefits.

17.8 billion working hours have been saved, particularly for women, who are often the primary caregivers.

Eliminating NTDs supports lives, livelihoods and growing economies.
