Yesterday, our officers joined members of the community in reading portions of the United States Constitution and recognizing the principles upon which our nation was founded.

We appreciate the John B. Denton Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for continuing this annual tradition and for inviting our officers to take part.

Some of us remember exactly where we were on September 11, 2001. Others were too young to remember or had not yet been born. While we may not all share the same memories of that day, we share the responsibility of honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the families forever changed.

In the months that followed, Americans stood together. We were not defined by our differences, but united by what we shared. We were reminded that community is more than simply living in the same place—it is caring for our neighbors, helping those in need, and standing together during difficult times.

Twenty-five years later, may we honor those we lost by continuing to be that kind of community—one that builds bridges, shows kindness, lifts others up, and looks out for one another.

Our differences do not define us. Our actions do.

We are neighbors. We are a community. We are Americans. We remember, and we will never forget.

Motorists are also reminded to follow the state's Move Over or Slow Down law. It requires drivers to move over a lane or reduce their speed to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when approaching vehicles stopped with flashing lights activated on the roadside or shoulder. That's not just law enforcement cars, but also emergency vehicles, TxDOT vehicles, tow trucks, and utility vehicles.

Tomorrow morning, backpacks come out of hiding, alarms start ringing way too early, and “five more minutes” officially returns to the morning vocabulary. 😄

The Decatur Police Department will be conducting training with Decatur ISD from 8am to 12pm today. There will be numerous emergency vehicles at the High School. This is planned training and there is no cause for alarm.

We will be conducting Safety Training at Decatur High School, Decatur, TX , on Wednesday, August 5, from 8am to 12pm.

The Decatur Police Department is now accepting applications for our Police Explorer Program!

If you're 14–20 years old and have completed the 8th grade, this is your chance to learn about law enforcement through hands-on activities, weekly meetings, community service, and opportunities to compete with Explorer posts from across the state.

Stop by the Decatur Police Department or visit the City of Decatur website to pick up an application and learn more.

Community partnerships make a difference.
This young entrepreneur was raising funds for school supplies and soccer equipment, and our officers were happy to stop by, support her efforts, and enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade.

Penelope even delivered extra lemonade to the Police Department to make sure everyone had the opportunity to enjoy a glass.
