🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — We Remember.

Today, the members of the Decatur Fire Department pause to remember the 343 firefighters, 23 New York City police officers, 37 Port Authority police officers, 8 emergency medical technicians and paramedics, and 1 New York Fire Patrol officer who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

We also remember the 55 members of the United States Armed Forces who lost their lives at the Pentagon, along with the 40 passengers and crew members aboard United Airlines Flight 93 who courageously fought back against the hijackers.

In total, 2,977 innocent people were killed that day, including first responders, military personnel, airline crews, passengers, office workers, and civilians. We honor every life lost, along with the families, friends, coworkers, and communities forever changed by that tragedy.

We remember their courage.
We remember their sacrifice.
We remember the brotherhood, service, and selflessness of everyone who answered the call without hesitation.

Twenty-five years later, the meaning of that day still resonates deeply within the fire service and throughout our nation. It reminds us why we serve, why we train, and why we stand ready to help our neighbors when they need us most.

And here in Decatur, we are reminded every day of what community truly means. The outpouring of support, prayers, encouragement, meals, supplies, and kindness our community has always shown our firefighters has been nothing short of incredible. You continue to remind us that we don’t serve this community alone—we serve alongside an amazing community that stands behind us.

Today, we honor everyone who was lost, we stand with those who continue to carry their memory, and we remain committed to serving with the same courage, compassion, and dedication.

What a great way to start the day!

Luke wanted to visit the fire station for his 2nd birthday! 🚒🎂❤️ Safe to say, he had a pretty great time! We enjoyed the visit.

💙 Community Update on donations 💙

We’ve received a lot of inquiries about our current needs for water, electrolyte drinks, snacks, and other supplies.

We are currently extremely well stocked on all of these items, and we’ve even been able to share supplies with some of our mutual aid partners. ❤️

🚨 UPDATE: COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE

The fire was contained to the roaster, and crews have cleared the scene at approximately 12:27

We are currently on scene investigating a reported commercial structure fire at 110 N. Trinity Street on the square. Please avoid the area and allow our crews room to work. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
