Dear Nelson Mandela University students.

On-Campus accommodation appeals

Please note that On-Campus accommodation appeals are opening this week. We will communicate the process and where to submit your appeal tomorrow.

NSFAS appeals

Students are urged to keep on checking their NSFAS statuses on the MyNSFAS student portal. We have noted that some students are already given an option to appeal, please note that you are afforded 30 days to submit your appeal.

Due to difficulties of acquiring the propensity letter from faculty administrators by appealing students last year, we have written to the DVC of Learning and Teaching to communicate with faculties and instruct them to treat the request from students as an urgent matter.

The organization is finalizing and will be releasing a guide document on how to appeal this week.

Statement on Essentials to keep in mind when coming to George Campus.

George Campus is one of Nelson Mandela Universities campuses situated in George,Western Cape. The setting of this campus is different from the other 4 campuses you’d find in PE as it is smaller and more secluded however can be said to be the safest campus as the entrance has strict access control.

The campus has accommodation on campus however you’ll find that due to demand and scarcity of space students have flooded off campus, with 4 big properties of campus. A shuttle is used to get from campus to res and from res to campus(These are free, like in Gqeberha).

What to bring along:

All Residences are equipped with the basic necessities; Bed, Cupboard,study table(with chair), curtains, and bin, so leave all the extra furniture because it might not have space.

What you do need to bring however is your bedding(duvet,sheets,blanket). Also bring your own cutlery(spoons, folks and knives) and crockery(plates)

Some residences have a shared fridges, some have bar fridges for each student, some will allow you to bring your own bar fridge. This all depends on the residences itself.

Booking your ticket.

George is a fairly safe city however for convenience, if you are coming in a bus that is not Intercape, your destination is Sasol Garage, if Intercape you can get off at Sasol Garage in George or Intercape office, Cabs will also be available to take you to Campus, which is roughly 15km away. Or you can use Bolt or Uber.

Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.

Some students of extended qualifications are funded by Nsfas as we speak those who was affected by the issue of less than 60 credits.

Everyone is complaining about the shortage of money and the fees is too high compare to Intellimali.

This Norraco thing is not make sure it's seems like students 😳 been robbed their monthly allowances.

Any student who is interested in attending the funeral of the late Miss Zimkhitha Ntshisela in Mount Ayliff are required to register their names with the following staff members:

The booking arrangements will be based on the first come first serve basis for the first sixty students per the list on the above-mentioned staff members. Students are discouraged to send their names to all the staff members, you register your name to one person, above.
The registration of names will close anytime when each list has reached sixty.

Nelson Mandela University’s George Campus is reeling from a horrific incident earlier today (6 June 2023), where a male student allegedly stabbed a female student to death at an on-campus residence.
The University, in particular the George Campus, extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased student.
The alleged perpetrator was taken into police custody.
Counselling and other psychosocial support mechanisms, including pastoral services, have been arranged for students and staff affected by this tragedy. Affected students are encouraged to approach Emthonjeni Student Wellness, while staff can access support through staff wellness interventions on the Campus.
The University, specifically the George Campus, has been unimaginably shaken by this incident, and will do whatever it can to cooperate with the relevant law enforcement agency in the quest for justice.
As the University, especially affected students and staff, deals with the resultant emotions, we appeal for calm and sensitivity as the police investigation runs its course.

Kindly note that there will be no person who will be allowed to squat in the residences both On Campus and Off Campus.
Many of the squatters have received their funding and you required to go to Mr Theo Barnes’ office for placement.
Students without funding, mostly Senior Students must look for alternative accommodation for the second semester. Pampoen Kraal/Fatima Meer will be closed for major renovation which already started.
Stinkwood/Athenkosi Mbangatha is an office from next week going forward.
The students who are going to keep squatters in second semester will forfeit their rooms and or be charged with residence rules.
