This past weekend, the Springfield Rescue Mission was grateful to join our community for the 15th Annual Ride to Remember Springfield, Massachusetts, an event honoring local police and firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty. This year also paid tribute to the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and recognizing the courage and sacrifice of those first responders.

SRM was blessed to play a small part in the day by providing sandwiches, granola and energy bars, water, Gatorade, and other food items to help keep riders fueled along their journey. 🚴🥪💧

We are thankful for the opportunity to support those who rode in remembrance and to stand alongside our community as we continue to honor the lives, heroes, and families forever impacted by 9/11.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, organized, and supported this meaningful event. We will never forget.

We Remember. We Honor. We Never Forget.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the heroes who courageously rose to help others, and pray for the families and loved ones whose lives were forever changed.

As we reflect on this solemn day, may we hold close the hope, compassion, courage, and unity that brought people together in the face of unimaginable tragedy. May we continue to honor their memory by serving others with that same spirit of love and selflessness.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

May God continue to bring comfort to those who grieve and remind us to never forget. ❤️🤍💙

"Before I came to the Rescue Mission," Brandon shared, "life was going to work, clocking in, clocking out, going home, hanging out with the kids, and then going to bed—rinse and repeat, with no real sense of purpose."

After more than three months at the Springfield Rescue Mission, Brandon says his "perspective has done a complete 180. Through learning Scripture, the teachings of my pastors, and developing a better relationship with God, I can apply what I’ve learned to my day-to-day life.

"[The Springfield Rescue Mission] has given me a whole new outlook on life. I’m not just working, sleeping, working, sleeping. I actually feel like there is a purpose to life now..."

That new sense of purpose is helping Brandon take meaningful steps toward his future.

He has been working alongside our Workforce Development Coordinator, Austin, to strengthen his resume and career-building skills. This September, Brandon is going to school to become an EMT, with plans to "work full-time as an EMT. Getting a house is the long-term goal, and then I want to have my two kids move in and live happily ever after and continue my relationship with God, of course."

This is what transformation can look like: renewed faith, a renewed sense of purpose, and hope for what comes next. ❤️

Stories like Brandon’s are made possible because people in our community choose to invest in the lives of the men we serve. Your generosity provides more than meals and shelter. It helps create opportunities for spiritual growth, education, career development, and a path toward independence.

CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY

In observance of Labor Day, the Springfield Rescue Mission will be closed today. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, September 8.

Today, we give thanks for all the hardworking men and women in our community and beyond. May we be reminded that the work we do, big or small, can be done with purpose and for His glory.
