Boo & Simon came to us from a hoarding situation and they’re still learning how to be typical house cats. They’re shy, easily startled, and need a calm home with a patient adopter who’s willing to allow them the space and time they need to adjust.

A small space (like a bathroom) is a great sanctuary space for cats to get familiar with a new home without getting overwhelmed. A confident, friendly cat in the home can help, too! With slow introductions, cats from these living situations often bond with other cats and learn new routines by following their lead.

This summer, several animal-loving kids took to the sidewalk to support pets and people in their community.

Clara (11) loves animals and did her own research when it came to choosing a meaningful cause for her lemonade stand to support. Her hard work raised $100 for animals in need at Dakin!

Declan (7) not only ran a successful lemonade stand to benefit animals, but he took his earnings of over $200 and purchased lots cleaning and animal care items off Dakin’s wish list!

Lily (7) hosted her 3rd annual lemonade stand to benefit shelter animals, as her two cats are Dakin alumni! Lily’s efforts raised $1,070 to support animals in need!

The heroic efforts of the young people in our community warm our hearts every day. We are filled with gratitude to do this important work for animals in a community that supports the bond between pets and people. From all of us at Dakin, THANK YOU for helping us change lives and create better tomorrows for all animals! 💙🐾

Of the many cats waiting patiently for homes at Dakin, Parker and Remy are our feline residents who have been here the longest.
