Teachers returned to buildings this week and are diving right into preparing classrooms, attending professional development, collaborating with colleagues and getting ready to make this a great year for students.

Welcome back Transportation!

Today, our transportation team spent their first of three in-service days reviewing procedures, sharing ideas and putting their skills into practice. Fog stood in for smoke in the bus to help drivers and educational assistants get a real-life feel for what it would be like to evacuate a bus in a heart-pounding situation.

You’ll see buses out and about the day before school starts as drivers practice their routes on the final day of in-service.

Eligible students who will be riding the bus need to register each year. Get your student a seat: https://www.springfield.k12.or.us/services/transportation.

When your registration is complete, keep an eye on your email for an invitation to join the free StopFinder app. StopFinder lets you know when the bus is coming, sends notifications when your student arrives at school and home, and alerts you with accurate information when the bus is late.

Welcoming back our Nutrition Services team!

Nutrition Services staff recently came together for their in-service in preparation for the new school year. From learning all the details to celebrating new and new to their role staff, this team had a very full day getting ready to welcome back students.

The Springfield Public Schools Board of Education meets tonight, Monday, August 24. The Board will meet in Executive Session at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Work Session at 6:00 p.m. The Board may take action on the item discussed in Executive Session. We know that everyone is excited to find out about their teachers and when schools will hold events. Staff are starting to return to buildings and prepare for the year, and you can expect to hear from your school soon with those details.

K–12 students enrolled in Springfield Public Schools are invited to Project Hope—a one-day event where they can pick up new shoes, socks, backpacks, and school supplies to get ready for the school year!

Only students enrolled in Springfield K–12 schools are eligible. Unfortunately, supplies and shoe sizes are not available for pre-K students.

• Ticket reservations begin Monday, August 24 at 7 a.m.

• Multiple appointment times are available, so you can choose what works best for your schedule.
• Every student must have a ticket and be present at the event to receive supplies.

• Giveaway will be held Saturday, August 29 from 1-5 p.m.

Maple Elementary Library Manager Ms. Britton recommends "The Mysterious Benedict Society" by Trenton Lee Stewart, a book sure to keep kids reading to find out what happens next.
