Last week the Miller Integrated Nature Experience (MINE) learned that last year’s issue of Backcountry Review was nominated for a Pacemaker award, the National Scholastic Press Association’s award for best specialty magazine in the United States. This is the third time in the past four years that MINE has been recognized as a finalist.

Springfield High School students endured 402 days without physically stepping foot in a classroom. Somehow 25 students managed to put together the seventh installment of Backcountry Review, landing interviews with Winona LaDuke, Chris Burkard, Peggie Allen, Dwight Hwang, Peter Gray, and Tony Wagner.

Today, the Miller Integrated Nature Experience was honored with a Pacemaker, the National Scholastic Press Association’s top award for best specialty magazine in the country. This is the second straight year that MINE has won a magazine Pacemaker.

The Miller Integrated Nature Experience received great news today—the 2019 issue of Backcountry Review was selected as one of two finalists for the National Scholastic Press Association’s 2020 Pacemaker for best specialty magazine in the country. This is the second year in a row that we have been a finalist, and last year MINE was honored with a Pacemaker.

The Sentinel is back, for the 83rd year! Our first issue of the year came out yesterday, featuring Springfield High School wrestler Jaya Mattes (page 12), as well as evaluating the purpose of the ACT (page 4). Copies can be picked up in the library, attendance office, counseling office, and main office.
