Congratulations, 2026 Project SEARCH Graduates!
Last week, we celebrated this year’s Project SEARCH interns who worked at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Five incredible graduates completed the program—and many have already been hired by local businesses, including Memorial Health!
We’re so proud of each graduate’s growth in workplace skills, independence and confidence. Want to learn more or get involved? Visit http://mh.social/xBzK50Z5JR8 for more information.

SMH has earned the nation's highest stroke care designation again! The Comprehensive Stroke Center designation from The Joint Commission recognizes hospitals that provide expert, around-the-clock care for the most complex stroke cases, and SMH has held it since 2015. We're one of only 17 hospitals in Illinois with this designation, and one of just a handful outside the Chicago area.
Our stroke team includes board-certified physicians and surgeons from SIU School of Medicine, Springfield Clinic, and Mid-America Emergency Physicians — all backed by a dedicated neurointensive care unit and the latest imaging technology. When it comes to stroke care in central Illinois, you don't have to look any further. We’re right here. http://mh.social/nY3350YYs1x

Last December, more than two decades after her passing, the estate of Lorene Montgomery Miley, a 1935 graduate of Springfield's Memorial School of Nursing, delivered a stunning surprise: a $434,000 gift to the Springfield Memorial Foundation. No prior announcement, just quiet generosity from a nurse who never stopped giving. Meet the remarkable Lorene:

Not all stroke care is the same, and SMH has earned the highest level there is. The Joint Commission designated SMH a Comprehensive Stroke Center, which means our team is equipped for the most complex stroke cases with specialized treatments and advanced neurosurgical capabilities. If you or someone you love faces a stroke, you want to be here with us.
When a stroke happens, the hospital you go to matters. That's why stroke designations exist. Our hospitals have earned Comprehensive Stroke Center (SMH) and Primary Stroke Center (DMH) designations from The Joint Commission, the gold standard in healthcare accreditation. JMH, LMH and TMH are also designated Acute Stroke Ready by the Illinois Department of Public Health. No matter where you are in our community, you're close to certified stroke care.

Congrats to Andrew Squires, our April Colleague of the Month for Memorial Health System Resources! As an electrician with the engineering team since April 2021, Andrew is the kind of colleague everyone counts on when the pressure is high and the timeline is tight. He is often the first to respond when an electrical issue pops up and the one who stays until everything is working exactly as it should. http://mh.social/3EgN50YWC7j
