Funk in Focus is a philosophy built on making space for creative expression through the use of traditional African American artforms known as Boogaloo, Robottin, Struttin and Popping. We build lesson plans gearred specifically for the needs of each individual student. Some of, but not all of the educational focuses in our private classes are listed below:

This summer, we’re focusing on the foundations that help dancers grow beyond moves and into deeper understanding.
Each month includes:
• New tutorials
• Two live group sessions
• A community jam session after every workshop
June → Feels & Muscle Control
July → Musicality, Pockets & Dance Principles
August → Feeling Inside Styles & Dance Fundamentals
Whether you’re building your popping foundation, refining your musicality, or looking for a stronger connection to the dance, this series is designed to help you level up with guidance, discussion, and community.

Memphis Jookin: Argentina
Dr Rico & Future have been working together since 2009 and now are officially helping building chapters and communities nationally as well as internationally to help spread Memphis Jookin while keeping the culture and connection to Memphis as one of the top priorities. The Argentina community loves trap, they love jookin, and they are slowly but surely growing to be better representatives for the style with time.
Future (DMV Chapter Lead) is sharing a step that OG Jaquency showed him. Look how much joy Gangsta Walking & Jookin can bring to the people!

FIF Fam is a collective of dancers that support and elevate each other in a real way. This group of people are focused on being foundationally strong, culturally knowledgable, and most importantly original and confident dancers. We are a collective of popping dancers from all around the world, but most of us love other styles too. This collective is for Poppers that want to be themselves, while still preserving the roots of what the dance is, and with a focus on support for the others inside the group.
I’m happy to say we will be opening an audition process for Funk in Focus Fam Members (Poppers Only this round). This audition will be done online via zoom. You will be doing a freestyle Popping Solo and go through an interview process with a panel of FIF Fam & Ambassador members. Bring a song of your choice and be ready to tell us about yourself and what drives you as an artist, etc.
