We're back at it again! Had an informative conversation with the Committee on City Life on why Portland riders & drivers deserve Fairness in Rideshare.

Together we will pass fair pay for drivers, protections from rider price gouging, and fare transparency.

The legucation continues.

I Rode A Driverless Taxi. What I Learned Will Scare You 04/15/2026

Great piece from More Perfect Union on what's not talked about enough. While despite the safety illusion Waymo creates, the reports of Waymo rides gone wrong continue to pile up, there's a big picture threat AVs pose to jobs for low wage workers.

I Rode A Driverless Taxi. What I Learned Will Scare You If Waymo gets its way, 2 million workers will be out of work. When Waymo gets a firm hold on a city, wages go down. Some drivers now have to work 12 hours day...

BREAKING: Today Portland City Councilor Steve Novick introduced a proposal (a collab between Council & Drivers Union Oregon) to CAP UBER & LYFT'S TAKE RATE AT 20% and give riders & drivers FARE TRANSPARENCY!

Honoured to take next steps in our journey for a living wage for drivers & some safeguards against algorithmic discrimination for both drivers AND RIDERS.

Let's get after it!

BREAKING NEWS:

HB 4085, which would've allowed dangerous, unpopular, job-killing robovehicles into our state in 2026 IS DEAD! πŸ’€πŸ€–πŸš•

Community members have spoken, and this bill missed the mark on so many levels. Oregonians don't need AVs, Waymo, Lyft & Uber do!

Oregonians don't deserve to have their safety and jobs risked to be a part of another Silicon Valley transit experiment. Vulnerable communities, including low-income & immigrant communities would be especially at risk.

This is going to be a long fight for years to come, so thank you for digging in and urging lawmakers to .

πŸ€–RAISE YOUR HANDS FOR PROTECTING OUR COMMUNITIES & STREETS FROM ROBOTS!!!πŸ€–

This morning citizens, community organizations, unions, and even representatives from local municipalities across Oregon came together and sent a strong message to the House Transportation Committee during the public hearing for House Bill 4085 for Autonomous Vehicles (AVs).

One thing is clear. We're not ready for dangerous, experimental, job-killing robovehicles in the Beaver State. Local jurisdictions shouldn't be prohibited from their own regulatory policies, and our workforce & public safety shouldn't be threatened at the expense of enabling out-of-state big tech.

Waymo execs have admitted critical driving tasks are controlled in the Phillipines. How can we trust a company that not only outsources labour, but also public safety?

Oregon doesn't need to be the petri dish for an experiment we've seen go wrong in other states. Essential transportation providers and community members didn't ask for robovehicles...we asked for FAIR PAY & WORKPLACE PROTECTIONS!

It's no secret that rideshare drivers are largely black, brown & immigrant folks. Our driver community has been targeted by ICE nationally and even just recently in Portland. Noone should be afraid to leave home and never come back.

Today Drivers Union OR stood with other labour unions and community members to say we will not stand for the killing of our citizens, the inhumane treatment of human beings, and fear mongering of immigrants.

Thousands showed up and we were loud and powerful. Unfortunately our peaceful collective action was met with anarchy, as federal agents assaulted us with tear gas.

But we did not waiver and we did not back down. We only got louder.

This is the same courage our union shows every day when we stand up to the TNCs and Waymo and our adversaries and show them that we, the people...we, the workers have the power!

Workers' rights are immigrants rights, and immigrants rights are human rights! Thank you everyone for coming out and for your solidarity.

This is what WORKER POWER looks like!

Technology companies like Uber & Lyft use their algorithms & surveillance data to price gouge consumers and also keep driver pay low and maximize their profits. 1000s of us essential rideshare workers are organizing for labour standards and transparency for our passengers. We need support for our advocacy! Take this example below⬇️⬇️⬇️

This driver was paid barely Β½ of the fare on this recent trip! Riders don't know they're being gouged or that their driver's being undercut. Say no to algorithmic discrimination & arbitrarily high commissions, and yes to FAIR PAY & TRANSPARENCY!

Last night was a beautiful night for a strong group of drivers that showed up to last night's Portland City Council meeting!

We made a powerful statement last night before Council that we deserve better than what we've been experiencing. We highlighted low pay, unfair deactivations, and the need for our Driver Resource Center using the agonizing stories of our driver community...and that's our key to success. Showing up and making lawmakers feel what we're going through! The work isn't done. We're not going anywhere, and it is not a question of if, but a matter of time before we win our rights! Uber & Lyft, the clock is ticking.

This is what DRIVER POWER looks like.
