Hey, it’s Read An Ebook Day!

Celebrate the occasion by using one of our eBook databases/apps to download and read thousands of available items from your smart device.

We offer patrons Libby by Overdrive, Cloudlibrary, and ComicsPlus through our library.

Each one is FREE to use and access with your library card or online access card, and each app offers a different variety of materials for all ages to borrow from.

Checkout guidelines vary but are fairly similar for each app, and you’ll never pay any late fees since items return automatically.

Plus, you can take an eBook with you on the go, or use them at home!

Level up your reading game and give eBooks a try.

We won’t tell anyone if you also checkout the physical book to read too (we encourage it in fact)!

A few reminders that the library is always chic, and reading/learning is forever in style!

Fashion Week here in the U.S. wrapped up a few days ago, and we’ll move on to the overseas runways for the rest of the month.

Stop by the reading room to read the latest fashion magazines (like the coveted Vogue - September issue) to keep up with style trends, or peruse the stacks for fashion and costume-themed inspiration.

There’s also a fabulous display from one of our patrons in the display case to see.

Featuring Queen Sheba’s Unique and Vintage Handbag Collection, come check out the intricate details and styles of various curated handbags, purses, clutches, and bag accessories.

A perfect display for the season!

Bring your teens to our monthly Teen Hangout tonight!

Teens ages 13-17 are invited to come hang out with the youth services team for light snacks, games, book discussion, and a fun activity for the evening.
We’ll talk about things going on at the library and within the local community that they can attend and participate in.

September 15, from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM.

This month, we’ll have some fun air dry clay kits available to work on. You can even think outside the box and create whatever your imagination can think of!

Don’t worry about being too artistic, we’ll give some great books with tips and pointers to help you out.

Library programs aren’t just for kids!

Remember that we try to curate a selection of programs just for adults ages 18+.
Programs typically rotate each month and we try to offer a variety of different activities for all age levels.

This past weekend we hosted Tai Chi at the Library and Librarian Foodies Book Club.

Our Tai Chi pro, Paul Gerald, offered his skill and expertise in two different classes.
Fall Prevention for seniors and those who might need a little mobility strengthening, along with a traditional routine workout.
Look for announcements of another Tai Chi session next month soon, and get signed up.
If you want a gentle workout to get moving, this is perfect!

Library assistant, Carla, was hard at work on Saturday cooking up something tasty (we could smell the fragrant garlic and herbs from the foyer!) for Foodies Book Club.

This particular book club meets up every other month, and we usually get the featured cookbook being reviewed via Interlibrary Loan for those interested in checking it out and trying the recipes.

Today will be the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, and the Pentagon in Virginia.

We share this information as a means of honoring the lives of those lost that day, preserving/archiving the event details, and passing on knowledge to everyone that history can be changed by a single day.

The library offers many books, and digital resources related to 9/11 that can help illuminate the details of the day, and educate all age levels: juvenile, teen, and adult.

…it’s time Longview. Haunted Library returns!

For two nights we will transform the entire library into a terrifying haunted house, and the stacks become a dark lair of monsters, frights, and spirits!

Haunted Library will be held on October 16, and October 17, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

For set up purposes, we will be CLOSED on these days and regular library services and facility use will be unavailable at this time.

Please note that the library will also be closed all day on October 15 for additional set up time.

Pre-sale tickets are available for purchase now, up until October 15.
They will be sold online only, via our Guestlist event site (link in the comments, or on our Haunted Library website).

Admission is $5.00 per person, and those who pre-purchase will receive line priority the day of the event and enter the haunted house ahead of the general admission line.

If you’ve never been to Haunted Library, take note that we go all out and turn this into a full blown Haunted House with lots of scares.

We’ve been hard at work doing a shifting project these past few days (and last week).

The library periodically shifts and moves things around over time to keep the stacks fresh and books rotating.

In an effort to keep all digital, media-related, and disc materials together, we’ve shifted audiobooks and MP3’s next to the DVDs and Blu-rays.

Non-fiction books remain in the same area, but have been shifted towards the back shelves.

Biographies have been moved over into the middle reference stacks.

We appreciate your patience as we get everything re-labeled and moved over.

If you need any assistance in finding titles, please let staff know and we’ll help you locate things!
