During their visit to Fort Riley, Medical Readiness Command, West, Commanding General Brig. Gen. Yolonda “YR” Summons and CSM Dedra T. Blash hosted a town hall with the staff here at Irwin Army Community Hospital.

The event highlighted the hard work our team does every day, culminating in a recognition ceremony for individuals who embody the Army values of selfless service and dedication.

BG Summons presented her commander's coin to several outstanding staff members, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the IACH mission and our community.

The floor was then opened for staff to publicly recognize their own peers. Those nominated by their teammates were awarded a special regional emblematic patch for their dedication to the mission.

Irwin Army Community Hospital’s Change of Command Ceremony

06/25/2026

Good morning IACH Patients,

To improve access to care, we are now posting daily updates on our page about same-day appointment availability, broken down into different categories. These appointments are for any patients assigned a Primary Care Manager at our main hospital only. Soldiers assigned to FHC and AHC offer separate appointments.
To understand the graphic, Family Practice encompasses any clinician that can see both pediatric and adult patients, Soldier Medicine is for those Soldiers assigned to Primary Care at IACH, and Internal Medicine only sees adult patients.

Same-Day Appointment Guidelines:

• Who Can Book: Patients assigned to a Primary Care Manager (PCM) at IACH. Soldiers assigned to Farrelly or Aviation Clinics use separate appointment processes.
• What Qualifies: Illnesses or injuries with a rapid onset (present for less than 5 days) such as fevers, sore throats, pain, migraines, sprains, burns, or cuts.
• What Does Not Qualify: Any illness or injury present for longer than 5 days. These conditions require a future, scheduled appointment rather than a same-day slot.

Check back daily for availability updates.

We were pleased to welcome Mr. Patrick Avila, the newly appointed President and CEO of Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, to Irwin Army Community Hospital.

IACH leadership, including outgoing commander COL Laudino Castillo and incoming commander COL Jason Marquart, invited Mr. Avila for a facility tour. The visit provided a firsthand look at how IACH operates with a unique focus in directly supporting the medical readiness and warfighting mission of the 1st Infantry Division.

Building strong relationships and shared understanding with our local healthcare partners ensures we continue to provide top-tier care for our Soldiers and the Fort Riley community. Thank you, Mr. Avila, for taking the time to visit, and congratulations on your new role.
