This week MedShare and the Center for Poverty Reduction (CPR), in collaboration with the Abia State Ministry of Health, were proud to launch biomedical engineering training in southeastern Nigeria as part of the final phase of MedShare’s Safe Birthing Initiative (SBI).

Abia is now the fourth state in just two months to host this critical healthcare technology program, following Delta, Bauchi, and Anambra States.

More than 40 biomedical engineers and technicians from hospitals across the state will participate in two weeks of intensive, hands-on training focused on the repair and maintenance of life-saving medical equipment donated by MedShare through the Safe Birthing Initiative.

This training is designed to help ensure that healthcare facilities have not only the equipment they need, but also the technical expertise required to keep it operational and sustainable so it can serve patients for years to come.

We extend our sincere appreciation to His Excellency Governor Alex Chioma Otti, Honorable Commissioner for Health Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, and CPR President/CEO Dr. Uche for their leadership and partnership in making this program possible.

As Dr. Uche stated, “Equipment without trained engineers is just furniture. Today, we change that. With biomedical engineers, hospitals become healing centers.”

At MedShare, Mother’s Day is especially meaningful because so much of our work is centered on helping mothers and children receive safe, compassionate care. Through partnerships with free & charitable clinics here in the United States, and nonprofit healthcare providers around the world, we help equip medical teams with the supplies and equipment they need to support healthy pregnancies, safer deliveries, and stronger starts for families.

Today, we celebrate mothers everywhere — and the healthcare workers, partners, and communities working every day to ensure more mothers can thrive and bring new life into the world safely. Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at MedShare.
