Every extraordinary service dog begins with an extraordinary beginning. Before these puppies can change the life of a veteran, first responder, or person with a disability, they need food, toys, cleaning supplies, training equipment, and veterinary care.

We've created a registry filled with the everyday items that help us raise healthy, confident Labrador puppies before they begin their service dog journey.

Whether you choose a bag of puppy food, a toy, cleaning supplies, or another item, every purchase goes directly toward caring for our future service dogs.

Even if you're not in a position to give right now, sharing this post helps introduce Hero Labradors to others who may want to support our mission.

They say things come in threes...
The not-so-good threes: 🚌 The bus broke down and is in the shop at Phillip K Flusche auto (best garage in Texas). 🛻 The utility cart broke down and had to go to the shop. 🦶 My toenail decided to grow into both sides of my toe and had to be removed.

Thankfully, the good threes are a lot more exciting.

🐾 Rouge is in heat. 🐾 Pono is in heat. 🐾 Anela is in heat.

Now the fun—and expensive—part begins.
Three girls means: • Progesterone tests every three days. • Three breeding cycles. • Six transcervical insemination procedures (we perform two per breeding). • Possibly three C-sections. • And somewhere between 3 and 30 puppies... because Mother Nature doesn't publish the litter size in advance!

Every one of those puppies represents the possibility of changing a life. They may grow into service dogs for veterans, first responders, or children with disabilities—all provided at no cost to the people who need them.
Breeding service dogs responsibly isn't inexpensive, but it's worth every penny. If you'd like to help us through this busy season, your support goes directly toward veterinary care, breeding expenses, and raising the next generation of Hero Labradors.

Howdy!
We apologize for our radio silence this year. As many know, we said goodbye to Polar Bear at the start of 2026. Since then, we’ve been pretty quiet as we navigate the next few years for HL.

The other 5 dogs are all doing as good as ever! Sandy and Rizzo turned one in January, Pono turned 3 in January, Rouge turned 5 in February, and Anela turned 5 earlier this month.

We have been waiting for Pono or Rouge to go into heat, and when they do, we will hopefully make the long loved puppy announcement. Its been 7 months since our last litter began training, and we are eager to get the next group of heroes on the ground.

As for Chuck and Adelle- Chuck got his eardrum replaced…again in april. His recovery went well, and now he listens about as well as the dogs! Adelle got her back fixed…again in February and is also healing well. They will both be in perfect condition when the time comes to get back on the road! (Hopefully this trip can coincide with HL’s 10 year anniversary this August!)🤞🏻

Urgent Call to Action

One of our Hero Labradors — a service dog who has protected and supported an Iraq & Afghanistan veteran for years — is now fighting for her own life.

After recovering from her first TPLO knee surgery, she tore her other knee… and then became acutely ill the day after Thanksgiving. She has been hospitalized ever since.

Veterinary specialists discovered a dangerous joint infection in her recently repaired knee. She now needs emergency surgery to save her mobility, followed by her second TPLO once she stabilizes.

This veteran’s service dog has given him independence, safety, stability, and hope through years of pain and medical challenges. Today, she needs us to fight for her.
