Working to achieve sustained economic growth for the City of Decatur through increased employment op
The Decatur Economic Development Corporation was formed in 1993. Funds received by DEDC are used to promote the economic growth of Decatur and give the Corporation flexibility to assist companies with infrastructure, training and other items of importance. In 1997, a voter approved referendum also allows funds to be used for the capital and operation needs of the Decatur Civic Center and for infrastructure, building and equipment needs on public land. Decatur offers a pro-active and progressive city government with an extremely positive attitude concerning the future growth and expansion of the Decatur area. The City of Decatur, Wise County and the DEDC work closely together to provide business and industry attractive incentives to grow and expand if already in the city or for business and industry considering an expansion or relocation to a new community. The city of Decatur, Wise County, the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Main Street, existing business and industry and the DEDC continues to try to preserve the charm, character, uniqueness and appeal of Decatur while maintaining a progressive, urban atmosphere where any business or industry can thrive and grow.

Over the next decade, 3.8 million new manufacturing workers will need to be hired in the U.S.
The North Central Texas region (including Wise County, excluding Tarrant and Dallas Counties), as of July 2026, needs:
- 30 Machinists
- 402 Production Workers
- 108 Bus & Truck Mechanics, Diesel Engine Specialists
- 28 Industrial Machinery Mechanics
- 27 Avionics & Aircraft Mechanics
- 276 Managers & Supervisors of Production Operations

At last night’s Decatur City Council meeting, Mayor Eddie Allen and Council recognized Chalet of Jewelry as the August Business of the Month! The locally owned shop celebrated its 45th year in business on August 17 – perfect timing for this recognition.
Chalet of Jewelry is more than a jewelry store – it’s a place where life’s most meaningful moments are celebrated. Their commitment to honesty, education, craftsmanship, and exceptional customer service is at the heart of their business. ❤️💍📿
1981 – Founded by Rex and Lou Gage
1982 – Their daughter, Cyndi Fernihough, joined the business and continued the family legacy for over 30 years
2017 – Upon Cyndi’s retirement, Trey & Breanne Fernihough purchased the business to continue the legacy and embrace new ideas and traditions
2020s – Madelyn Fernihough is pursuing her gemology degree through the Gemological Institute of America
The Fernihoughs shared that the Decatur community has been incredibly faithful to Chalet of Jewelry, and the relationships they have built with friends and customers are what matter most. They consider their support of Decatur-area non-profits, churches, schools, and civic organizations both “a privilege and a responsibility”.
