The Decatur City Council will touch on the hot-button topic of data centers at its Sept. 28 meeting, but city officials stress that the proposed overlay district is meant to put ground rules in place so the city is prepared if a developer comes knocking.

The council will discuss creating a data center overlay district in Decatur. An overlay district is a zoning tool that adds additional land-use and development standards on top of a property’s existing zoning.

Decatur has not been approached by a data center developer planning to build in the city, Decatur City Manager Nate Mara said Tuesday.

Boyd ISD officials weighed in on the alleged assault of a 14-year-old student in the Boyd High School field house that led to multiple arrests and an internal investigation into a potential Title IX violation.

Four Boyd High School students were arrested Sept. 15 after police said they forcibly took a student into the locker room, stripped him to his underwear, held him down and subjected him to lewd physical contact.

Boyd ISD Superintendent Tom Woody said the school’s internal investigation is nearing its conclusion. He also shared that the alleged assault transpired in 47 seconds.

“We’ll deal with any student that did wrongdoing, [and] we’ll support the student that the wrongdoing was against,” Woody said. “But we’re not going to jump out and automatically crucify without doing our due diligence in investigating before we make decisions.”
