The Morgan County Commission planted a Princeton Elm tree in honor of America's 250th birthday and commemorated the planting Tuesday morning. The Liberty Tree was placed in the northeast portion of Cotaco Park in front of the Morgan County courthouse. Commission Chairman Ray Long and others briefly spoke during the 10-minute ceremony.
Pastor James Henderson, a member of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, gave an opening prayer and Lawrence Hillis, president of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of SAR, led the pledge before reading the Preamble.
Cindy Whitaker of the local Stephens Chapter of the Daughter of the American Revolution, also spoke and thanked the County Commission for planting the tree.

The marker at the base of the tree reads:

The Liberty Tree Legacy
This marker and Liberty Tree Commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and America’s 250th birthday – July 4, 2026.
Presented by the Alabama USA Semiquincentcennial Commission
