Our Kindergarten friends took their annual field trip to Domino’s! They got a behind-the-scenes look at how our community helpers work hard to make and deliver those delicious pizzas—and even had the chance to make their own pizzas!

We love ending Community Helpers Week with this fun tradition—and a tasty treat! Thank you to all of our parents, grand parents and family members for bringing our students and helping make this special experience possible. We want to thank Ms. Vicky and the staff at Domino’s for taking care of us so well. What a fun way to celebrate the helpers who serve our community!

We wrapped up Community Helpers week with a BIG finish! Our little learners loved getting an up-close look at a fire truck and meeting some of the brave firefighters who keep our community safe. It was extra special to welcome one of our very own preschool family members.

Village Academy loves Tess’ Place! On Wednesday we continued celebrating special places in Decatur and Tess’ Place is one of our favorites! Our kids were so excited about our delicious ice cream treat. A big thank you to our friends at Tess’ Place for your visit!

While focusing on Community Helpers this week we are also learning about places and people that make Decatur special. One of those places is the Princess Theater. On Wednesday, Cara Elliott with the theater group Dream Weavers spoke to us about the Princess. She shared pictures from the inside of the theater and from past plays. We heard about costumes, props and some upcoming plays and movies our students would enjoy. We loved her puppet friends as she showed us how actors can use their voices, expressions and movements to tell a story.

Also on Tuesday we were excited to welcome Officer Reynolds to Village Academy. The children were excited to meet her and learn about her important job. We couldn’t wait to see in her vehicle, hear the rumbler siren and see the lights!

Tuesday we welcomed one of our preschool dads, Dr. Christian Smith for a special Community Helper week assembly. He began by reminding each of us, “Who made us” and “How God made us”… “Wonderfully!” Dr. Smith also had a very special assistant who showed us how to use a stethoscope, an otoscope and even how to give a shot!

Tomorrow Is Community Helper Dress-Up Day!

To kick-off our Community Helpers’ Week with a spotlight on Decatur, our Kindergartners and 4-year-old classes had a wonderful visit from helpers from the Cook Museum of Natural Science. They got to see fascinating insects, explore interesting animal-related items and even touch some of the things they were learning about.
