We are so thrilled to honor Representative Collins with this award! Congratulations to Lauren Tucker of Leon Sheffield Magnet School- Decatur, Alabama on being the 2026 Representative Terri Collins Excellence in Literacy award recipient!

MUCH NEEDED FUNDS: State Representative Terri Collins presented Decatur City Schools with a $90,000 check to support student success. The funding includes $25,000 for Equipping Minds, $25,000 for Magma Math, and $40,000 to cover the cost of AP Exam Fees.

We are grateful for Representative Collins’ continued support of our students and schools!

We are grateful to Senator Arthur Orr for his continued support of Decatur City Schools - Alabama! A sincere thank you for helping secure a career readiness grant and additional funding to invest in new equipment for Career Academies of Decatur.

These investments will provide our students with hands-on experiences using industry-standard equipment, preparing them for success in college, careers, and beyond. Thank you for believing in our students and investing in their futures!

🌟Launch Intern Spotlight 🌟 - Haydee De Leon

Haydee is spending her summer at Decatur Morgan Hospital. During her internship, she has gained hands-on experience with operating a variety of medical equipment, caring for patients, assisting with administrative duties, and observing medical procedures. Haydee shared that her experience at the hospital has exceeded her expectations and has opened her eyes to the role of each department within the hospital. As she steps into her senior year at Decatur High School- Decatur, Al, Haydee is excited to meet more medical professionals and prepare for a career in healthcare.

Haydee, we are so proud of all that you have accomplished and can't wait to see all that you will do next!

Jalic is interning at Decatur Morgan Hospital this summer. She has learned so much about patient care, procedural practices, using medical equipment, and how each department in the hospital works together while maintaining distinct roles. Jalic shared that shadowing each department has made her more appreciative of every job within a hospital and has shown her several career possibilities in healthcare. As Jalic completes her senior year at Career Academies of Decatur , she is excited to learn more about the medical field and pursue career opportunities.

Tristan shared that this internship has surpassed her expectations and increased her appreciation for her local community. As she enters her senior year at Austin High School, Tristan looks forward to growing her new skills and investing more in her community as she prepares for the next stage of life.
