Some animals arrive at the shelter carrying more than just physical wounds.
When BLOTCH came to Humane Society of Blue Ridge, he had an injured paw, a wounded tail, and puncture wounds covering his body. Somewhere along the way, life had been hard on him. We don't know exactly what happened before he arrived, but we do know he deserved better.
What we couldn't know then was that behind those injuries was a cat who just wanted someone to love.
He stayed with us for a couple of months & during that time, he rested, healed and soaked up love from everyone that he could. It was clear his was missing that tremendously. π
And then, one day, he was chosen and now BLOTCH is home!
BLOTCH was renamed to BOO KITTY.
Within hours of arriving home, BOO KITTY decided he was exactly where he belonged. π₯Ή
His adopter shared:
"BLOTCH now named BOO KITTY came right out of his shell only a few hours after arriving at home! He loves long naps on the couch (preferably on top of me), all night snuggles in bed AND his nighttime zoomies chasing toys all around the house! I couldnβt be happier to have him. He is the sweetest most loving silly boy."
It's hard to look at BOO KITTY now and imagine the cat who arrived injured and uncertain. That's the beautiful thing about second chances.
With a little care, a little time, and the right person.. everything can change. π₯Ή We are incredibly grateful to his new family for choosing adoption and giving him a chance!
Happy life, BOO KITTY!
We're cheering for you always!

π£ HONEY BUN & SWISS ROLL have been adopted! π£
These two arrived to us in rough shape. π They both required an eye removal and ironically, they each had the opposite eye removed.
HONEY BUN now has just his right eye and SWISS ROLL has just his left eye.
But together, they're the perfect pair. π₯Ή
We're grateful to their new family for choosing adoption & providing them a wonderful new life in their home!
Their next chapter has begun and we're over the moon for them & their new family!

When FERNANDO was facing his euthanasia deadline at Clayton County Animal Control a lot of people came together to change his story. β€οΈβπ©Ή
Volunteers in Clayton County advocated for him and shared his information with us. Luckily, we were able to make space for him here at Humane Society of Blue Ridge when he needed it most.
A volunteer transporter gave up their time to bring him safely to us here in Blue Ridge.
Our staff worked to help him settle into a new shelter, a new routine, and a completely new chapter.
Without each of those pieces, FERNANDO would not be where he is today.
Then came the most important piece of all.
A family said YES! π€
Today, FERNANDO, now GUNTHER (or "GUNNY" as he's known at home), is living the life every shelter dog deserves.
His family recently shared this update with us:
"He is doing fantastically, a spoiled baby. Everyone is in love with him, and he's doing great with our other dog and cats. He's been running around the yard playing fetch and following everyone around. He is a huge cuddle bug. We've changed his name to Gunther, a.k.a. 'Gunny.' He is the perfect dog for us."
Stories like GUNNY'S are a reminder that animal rescue is never the work of one person or one organization. It takes volunteers, transporters, shelter staff, adopters, donors, and supporters all working together to save lives.
When Humane Society of Blue Ridge said yes to FERNANDO, it created a path forward for a dog who was out of time.
When his family said yes to adoption, it opened a kennel for the next dog who needs that same chance.
That's how rescue works.
One advocate.
One transporter.
One shelter.
One adopter.
One life changed forever.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in getting GUNNY home. Because of you, one dog got the future he deserved. And because of his adoption, we now have room to save another. π₯Ή
Welcome home, GUNNY!
We're cheering for you always. π«Άπ½
