Last week we had the following requests for help and were able to say âyes, absolutely,â thanks to the generosity of our community. Thank you for giving us the means to be able to help folks help themselves.
A parent needed assistance with two substance abuse counseling sessions to finish a court ordered program in a âfamily preservationâ case. This individualâs private insurance for counseling had been exhausted and there was no help available through DFCS. Counseling for parents is a key component of most DFCS cases but it can be extraordinarily difficult to access in small communities due to availability of therapists, costs, transportation and child care concerns. Happy we were able to assist.
Another need was presented to us for newborn assistance. A relative placement case where the parents are already caring for a one year old and an infant sibling due any day. Their asks were modest - a baby monitor, some swaddles and sleep sacks, a white noise machine and double stroller. With proceeds from âA Night to Foster Hopeâ we were able to assist this family with all of these additional needs.
We thank you always for your support.
May is National Foster Care Month though Iâm not sure why is celebrated for only one month out of a year. There are many ways you can assist families experiencing foster and kinship care as well as those at risk - and we are happy to connect you if you would like additional information.

Today is National Foster Care Day.
And behind that titleâŚ
are real kids living real stories.
Kids who had to grow up too fast.
Kids who pack their lives into trash bags.
Kids who donât know where theyâll sleep next⌠or who theyâll be with.
Itâs not just âa system.â
Itâs missed birthdays.
New schools.
Goodbyes they didnât choose.
But itâs also this,
People who open their homes anyway.
Who show up.
Who love without knowing how long theyâll have them.
Foster care isnât just about saving kids.
Itâs about giving them stability, safety, and a chance.
So today,
pay attention.
Support it.
Speak up.
Because every child deserves more than survival.

Date: May 26
Time: 12:00-2:30
Location: Flowery Branch, GA
đNote: To maximize the number of kids participating, we are asking for one caregiver with 1â2 children currently in foster care who LOVE the Falcons per application.
You can apply on the Foster Friendly App, which can be downloaded here:
https://americaskidsbelong.org/foster-friendly-communities/foster-friendly-app/
Your donations are important to foster, kinship and at risk families!
With your help, we are able to provide caretakers with a birthday gift card to assist them in celebrating the children in their care. Some of these kids have never had a birthday celebration that included cake and presents. Thank you.
Another way we help in the foster/kinship community is by covering the cost of tutoring for school children. Many of these kids have learning differences and extra help outside the classroom gives them a better shot at educational success.
