I have a 10am massage open on Friday, September 9th! Who's in?

What’s your favorite way to unwind, relax, enjoy your time?
Personally, I LOVE sitting in my garden with a beverage (different bevies depending on the time of day), and enjoying the sounds, smells, sights, all of it. It is so relaxing.
I can forget about the rat race for a bit and just be there, present with nature. Plus, it’s fun to see new sprouts from the seeds as they pop up!

This book was written specifically for women. And I definitely know a lot of women who could benefit from reading it. Many of my clients come in burned out and on their last nerve.
This book is a great tool to help understand how to complete the stress cycle so we don’t carry the stress around with us all day every day.
In the authors words: “This is a book for any woman who has felt overwhelmed and exhausted by everything she has to do, and yet still worried she was not doing ‘enough’. Which is every woman we know-including us.”
Enjoy!

Hey Y'all!
For most of us breathers, it's an unconscious act that we mostly take for granted. Think about your breath for a minute. Focus on it. We can actively control it when we want to, but most of the time it's a thoughtless process.
If we are in a situation where we feel unsafe, whether it's emotionally, physically, or mentally, our body regulates our breathing accordingly.
For instance, if we are being attacked or scared, are feeling unsafe emotionally, or in pain physically, our breath might speed up, we might hold our breath, breathe shallowly, or hyperventilate, unconsciously. This is our sympathetic nervous system taking over, otherwise known as fight, flight, or freeze.
If we are consciously aware of what's happening in this moment of stress, we can override this natural response by performing simple breathing techniques to take our body from stress mode to calm.
One I really like, is called 4-7-8. This means, breathe in to the count of 4, hold for a count of 7, and breathe out to the count of 8. Repeat until your heart rate steadies and you feel a sense of calm.
You may also simply take controlled deep breaths, in and out. Controlling your breathing in this way signals the parasympathetic nervous system to calm the body down.
What does any of this have to do with Massage?
Not all, but most of the clients I see have structural issues, want to rehab or work on a specific problem. They come to me for deep tissue, specific structural type work. While the techniques I use are executed in a way that tries to finesse my way in to the muscles, it can still be a little painful.
(Note: if you cannot breathe, feel uncomfortable about anything during a massage, or the work is too deep, please tell your massage therapist it's too much or that you are uncomfortable. We never want to cross that threshold as it can incite a nervous system response which can exacerbate traumas, physically and emotionally. More pain during your massage doesn't mean more gain).
During this time, making a conscious effort to breathe through the uncomfortable parts of the massage, and focusing in on how your nervous system is reacting, can really help to achieve the outcome you are looking for from this type of bodywork.
Deep breathing promotes blood flow and increases the effectiveness of the lymphatic system. Breathing deeply into the affected area while it's being manipulated by the massage can increase the brain's awareness to the area and can help retrain the muscle to "turn off" or relax.
In the end, BREATHING IS GOOD! Try to notice when you hold your breath, breathe deeply, breathe rapidly, or hyperventilate, etc. in your daily life. Your breath can show you a lot about yourself that maybe needs healing, or focus.
This weeks availability for massage:
Tuesday, August 16th: 1pm for 60 or 90min.
Thursday, August 18th: 11:30pm for 60min.
Have a great week and keep breathing. You are amazing!

Nothing says "I love you" like giving the gift of relaxation and recuperation. NOTHING, I TELL YOU!

In my nearly 17 years as a Massage Therapist I’ve found great joy in this work with my fellow humans.
During the last 7 years in private practice as Living Anew Therapeutic Massage, I’ve experienced a great expansion of how I’m able to show up and be there for my clients physically, emotionally, and mentally, as well as receiving the gifts and lessons they bestow upon me just from lying on my table. It’s truly beautiful.
I am so grateful and thankful for all of my clients and their years of loyal patronage, as well as the abundance of referrals that make my small business successful.
My clients really are badass!
Thanks for the greatest 7 years and cheers to many more!
