🎉 22 years ago today, something big happened at LifeLine Animal Project.

On September 19, 2004, LifeLine Animal Project performed its very first spay/neuter surgery at the LifeLine Spay & Neuter Clinic in Avondale.

And the very first patient? A kitten named Petey. 🐾

That first surgery marked the beginning of a program that would go on to make a huge difference for pets and families across our community. Since then, LifeLine has performed more than 225,000 spay/neuter surgeries, helping prevent unwanted litters and keeping more animals out of shelters.

DeKalb has 70+ teen puppies right now, and that number can grow fast.

Puppies come into the shelter in litters, as strays, and through everyday intake. If they aren’t adopted quickly, they don’t stay tiny for long. In just a few months, that little puppy becomes a 6, 8, or 10 month old “teen” still waiting in a kennel while even more young dogs arrive behind them.

And teen puppies can be some of the easiest dogs to overlook.

They may not fit in your arms anymore, but they are still babies in so many ways. They are still learning. Still growing. Still figuring out the world. They want walks, toys, training, adventures, couch naps, and someone who will show them what life outside the shelter can look like.

The best part? With a teen pup, you can already see more of the dog they’re becoming, their personality, size, energy level, and all the funny little things that make them them.

These 70+ dogs deserve to grow up in homes, not kennels.

Asher, is a 3 year old super cuddler who seems convinced that every lap was created specifically for him.

Asher is the kind of dog who can happily run around with his favorite toy, head out for an adventure, and then melt right into you when it’s time to slow down. He walks politely on leash, has enjoyed interacting with other dogs, and volunteers know him for his sweet, gentle hugs.

He recently got a break from shelter life for a hike and was described as exactly what these photos suggest: friendly, affectionate, cuddly, and so happy to be with people.

We want someone to see these photos and imagine what comes next: Asher sprawled across your couch, joining you for walks, carrying his toys around your house.

LifeLine’s Healthy Pets in Fulton County event is back with FREE pet vaccines, checkups, and more for Fulton County pet owners!

Join us Saturday, October 17 from 10 AM–1 PM at Atlanta Technical College for free services while supplies last, including vaccinations, microchipping, pet food and leashes, spay/neuter vouchers, pet resources, and licensing.
