Since July 1, we've received reports of:

๐Ÿš— 28 thefts from vehicles
๐Ÿ”Ž 15 vehicles rummaged through
๐Ÿ”‘ 11 stolen vehicles

All 11 stolen vehicles were reported in the northern part of the city.

There have also been multiple recent stolen vehicle reported in neighboring jurisdictions.

While we can't prevent every crime, there are simple steps you can take to reduce the opportunity for theft:

๐Ÿ”’ Lock your vehicle every time, even when you're parked at home or only stepping away for a few minutes.
๐Ÿšซ Remove valuables from your vehicle. Don't leave wallets, purses, electronics, fi****ms, or other valuables inside.
๐Ÿ‘€ Keep the interior clear. Even items that aren't valuable can attract attention and lead someone to check your vehicle.
๐Ÿ”‘ Take your keys with you and never leave your vehicle running and unattended.
๐Ÿ’ก Park in a well-lit area. Utilize motion-activated lights, if possible.
๐Ÿšช If you park in a garage, close the garage door.

These small habits take very little time and can go a long way toward preventing an opportunity for theft.

Lock it. Take it. Protect it. A few seconds now can save you a lot of frustration later.

Sergeant Lee had the pleasure of attending the recent Back-to-School Bash at Long Cheng Community Center. Together with Kiwanis 'n Cops 'n Kids Program and several other community partners, we were proud to be part of an event that brought our neighbors together and helped local students prepare for the new school year.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed Sgt. Lee and to Long Cheng Marketplace for having us. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a great community event and wish all the students a safe and successful school year!

They will have pencils, crayons, colored pencils, markers, folders, notebooks, and pencil bags on hand. Supplies will be limited, but we look forward to celebrating the upcoming school year with you and your families.

Meet Bruce. Bruce is a heckin good boy. Bruce did a little oopsie last night and got himself lost. No worries, Bruce. Bruce got to go on an impromptu ride-along with Angie at the front desk while he waited for his mom. Bruce was very well behaved and got lots of pets from officers. Thanks for stopping by, Bruce!

"Why yes, I am excited for the Packer game tonight. Why do you ask?" - Sgt. Hughes, probably

๐Ÿˆ The Packers are back tonight, which means football season is officially underway.

If your game plan includes a few drinks, make sure it includes a plan for getting home, too. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare, or make arrangements with a sober friend or family member before the kickoff.

The best game plan is the one that gets everyone home safely. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

We were honored to recently welcome our friends from Kanonji, Japan, to the Appleton Police Department!

Appleton and Kanonji have shared a sister-city relationship for decades, creating opportunities for our communities to connect, learn from one another, and build lasting friendships across the Pacific.

It was a pleasure to continue that tradition by welcoming our Kanonji visitors to APD, sharing a little about our department, and learning more about their community and culture. Weโ€™re grateful for the friendship between Appleton and Kanonji and look forward to continuing to strengthen that connection for years to come!

Sometimes you find the suspect. Sometimes the suspect finds you.

This past weekend, our officers were dispatched to a downtown parking lot for a reported hit-and-run accident. The caller described the driver of the striking vehicle as appearing visibly intoxicated.

While officers searched the area for the suspect vehicle, Officer Lahti was fortunate enough to encounter a not-so-subtle clue.

The driver was subsequently arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated and cited for additional moving violations.

Unfortunately, this wasn't an isolated incident. That night alone, our officers arrested three people for OWI.

Impaired driving is indefensible and completely preventable. Before you get behind the wheel, make a plan to get home safely. Choose a designated driver, use a rideshare, call a taxi, or ask a sober friend or family member for a ride. A decision to drive impaired can put countless people at risk. Everyone deserves to make it home safely, including the people sharing the road with you.
