As we recognize Gun Safety Awareness Month, pediatricians and law enforcement professionals are coming together around a shared message: safe storage saves lives.
Firearms are now the leading cause of death for children and teens.
π 4.6M children live in homes with unlocked, loaded guns.
πΉ Locking just 20% could prevent up to 135 youth deaths a year.
Being a responsible gun owner means securing your firearms.
Watch the new video series from IACP, in partnership with On Call 4 Kids, on the IACP website to hear from pediatricians and law enforcement officers working together to keep kids safe and families protected. π https://www.theiacp.org/working-group/committee/firearms-committee

The STCC Police Department encourages our community to practice safe and responsible firearm ownership.
Owning a firearm is a right but securing it is a responsibility. Safe storage helps prevent unauthorized access, accidents, and tragedies before they happen.
According to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), millions of children live in homes where firearms may be accessible when not properly secured. On Call 4 Kids continues to highlight the importance of education, awareness, and prevention to protect children and families.
A secured firearm means:
π Locked
β
Stored safely
π« Kept away from unauthorized users
π Protecting children, families, and our community
One moment of prevention can save a lifetime of heartbreak.

Today, the STCC Police Department honors and remembers Springfield Police Officer Kevin E. Ambrose, who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting his community.
On June 4, 2012, Officer Ambrose responded to a domestic violence call at the Lawton Arms Apartments in Springfield. Without hesitation, he entered a dangerous situation to protect a woman and her child. During the call, Officer Ambrose was shot and killed while helping them escape to safety.
After 36 years of dedicated service, his final act was one of courage, bravery, and selflessness. Officer Ambroseβs sacrifice will forever be remembered by his family, his brothers and sisters in blue, and the community he gave so much to.
We will never forget.
Rest in peace, Officer Kevin E. Ambrose
