Springfield Sister Cities
"Peace Through People"
Isesaki, Japan (1986) | Tlaquepaque, Mexico (2003)
Hey Springfield-area music and culture fans:
We are in for a treat!
Grupo musical Canela, from Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico, will perform five shows here June 11-14 to raise funds for their trip to Isesaki, Japan, with our citizen delegation this fall.
With their joy and passion for sharing their next-gen Latin identity, Grupo Canela was selected as the 2026 Traveling Musicians as an expression of unity among our three sister cities as SSCA celebrates its 40th anniversary with 伊勢崎市国際交流協会-Isesaki International Relations Association this year. 🇺🇸 🇯🇵 🇲🇽
None of the shows have covers, but donations are encouraged; $25 or more will get you a fun travel stamp-inspired bucket hat.

Kirsten Weingartner Weiss, a violinist and principal violist with Springfield Symphony Orchestra MO, performed a lovely program of popular standards and jazz (with a little Taylor Swift included) at Gigs in the Garden on a beautiful Mother's Day Sunday afternoon.
Kids made an origami flower craft to share with the moms in their lives and Kirsten even invited a young fan up to accompany her on a song.
