Springfield Public Schools continues to plan their roll-out of the Alpha School A.I. instructional model even after the recent cyberattack.

Alpha School is a for-profit company that aims to use artificial-intelligence-driven software to replace traditional teachers.

The Springfield Empowerment Zone is permitting this company to experiment on Springfield students with this A.I. instructional method at two middle schools.

Thursday 9/17: Alpha School, an private for-profit AI technology company, is still intending to run a pilot program, experimenting on our students, to test their AI instructional model. Join the organizing committee in the SEA Office (450 Cottage ST, Suite 5) at 4:15 to help organize against this.

Thursday 9/17 The Tools 4 Teaching Team will be at their Tapley St location with free supplies for teachers. Drop in from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

Friday 9/18: The SEA is hosting a back-to-school all-member social at White Lion from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. This is a great opportunity to invite new educators and seasoned coworkers to join in on union activity in a low-stress (and fun) environment.

STATEMENT FROM THE SPRINGFIELD EDUCATION ASSOCIATION ON THE CYBER INCIDENT AND CLOSURE OF SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The SEA is hosting a check in and update for all members today from 2-3pm on Zoom. Check your personal emails for the Zoom link.

We will use this time to provide an update on what we know so far. We will do our best to answer any questions with the information currently available.

Springfield Public Schools has experienced a cyber security breach this week.

The Springfield Education Association and its members have been investigating what this means.

SEA Members: Check your personal emails for a detailed update on concerns members have raised, what the district has currently shared with us about the status of schools and systems, and how we can urge the district to be transparent with educators and the community on the impacted data and any incoming changes to school conditions.

This Labor Day, ISTA celebrates the power of working people standing together and the educators and school employees who put that solidarity into action every day to strengthen Indiana’s public schools.

Tomorrow 9/1 isn’t just a Professional Development day, it’s also Election Day.

The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), of which the Springfield Education Association (SEA) is an affiliate, has an endorsement process it follows ahead of elections.

These are the candidates running who have received endorsement by the MTA and at least a part of Springfield is in the district they are running for.

Jeromie Whalen - Candidate for 1st Congressional District
Ed Markey - Candidate for U.S. Senate
Johnnie McKnight - Candidate for 11th Hampden District
Michael Lachenmeyer - Candidate for 12th Hampden District
