Check out this wonderfully written article about the quick thinking of the coaches and parents who saved our daughterβs life. We are so thankful for everyone who played a part in it. π
A terrifying medical emergency on a Sequim soccer field is a powerful reminder of how training, swift action, and having medical equipment on hand can save a life.
When 12-year-old Ashtyn Messinger collapsed suddenly during soccer tryouts at Carrie Blake Community Park on Sunday, May 17, coaches and parents leapt to assist, calling 911, beginning CPR and using an automated external defibrillator, or AED, to revive the sixth grader before she was airlifted to Seattle Childrenβs Hospital.
Today, Ashtyn is recovering after undergoing surgery to implant a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator, known as an S-ICD, in her chest. Her parents said they are overwhelmingly grateful to the people they believe saved her life.
βI wholeheartedly believe it was the quick thinking, the fact that they had the AED there, and a mixture of all those things that saved our daughterβs life,β said Ashtynβs mother, Charmaine Messinger.
An account to help with medical expenses has been established at gofundme.com/f/AshtynMessinger.

She is doing GREAT and we truly feel blessed beyond words. This community has wrapped its arms around our family and we will never forget it. Much love from all of us at Southern Nibble β€οΈπ
I just wanted to give our food truck customers an update on what has been happening with our family this week. On Sunday, our daughter Ashtyn suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at soccer practice. Thanks to the quick actions of her coaches, parents, CPR, and the AED, her life was saved. We were then lifeflighted to Seattle. It has been the scariest and most emotional week of our lives, and we are beyond grateful for everyone who has reached out, prayed, checked in, and supported our family. Yesterday she underwent surgery to have an S-ICD placed, and tonight we are finally home. We still have a long road of appointments, recovery, and adjustments ahead of us, but we are incredibly thankful to have her here with us.
We also have a very big festival this weekend, Juan de Fuca, that we still plan on attending. The festival runs Friday-Sunday from 11-7. We are doing our best to prep, shop, and keep everything moving while balancing family and recovery, so we ask that you please bear with us as we make adjustments and navigate everything day by day.
Thank you all for your patience, understanding, support, and kindness during this time. It truly means more than we can put into words.

Wish our cities around here would follow this.
Out here in Sequim, we love serving at the lot and being part of this community, thatβs why we fought to even be allowed to operate in the first place.
But the reality is, the fees add up quick. Between permits, event costs, and being asked to give up a percentage of gross at certain events, it gets heavy.
Food trucks like ours arenβt pulling in millions like big restaurants. Weβre just trying to keep the lights on at home, take care of our families, and serve real food to our community.
Itβs tough when every step of the way, someone wants a cut.
Weβre gonna keep showing up, because we love this town and the people in it. Just hoping to see more support for small businesses like ours moving forward.
Spokane makes it easier for food trucks to operate, eliminates license requirement The Spokane City Council has passed Ordinance C36863, significantly updating and streamlining regulations for mobile food vending, eliminating the annual mobile food vendor license requirement, clarifying operational standards, and aiming
