Cash, 36, of Winterville, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry, Army National Guard, Jacksonville, N.C.; who died on this day in 2004 when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle came under attack by small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Baqubah, Iraq.Thank you Chris for your service and sacrifice.

Army National Guard CPT Christopher S. Cash – The Summit Project 36, of Winterville, N.C.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry, Army National Guard, Jacksonville, N.C.; killed June 24, 2004 when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle came under attack by small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Baqubah, Iraq.

Today The Summit Project remembers the life and service of Army Sgt. Joel A. House, 22, of Lee, Maine; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; who died on this day in 2007 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Army Sgt. Joel A. House – The Summit Project 22, of Lee, Maine; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died June 23, 2007 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Today The Summit Project remembers the life and service of Army Staff Sgt. Brandon M. Silk, 25, of Orono, Maine; assigned to the 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; who died on June 21st in 2010 near Gaza Ridge, Afghanistan, when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter in which he was traveling made a hard landing.Thank you Brandon for your service and sacrifice.

Robert was born in Limestone, Maine. Thank you Robert for your service and sacrifice.

Army Master Sgt. Robert M. Horrigan – The Summit Project 40, of Austin, Texas; assigned to Headquarters, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.; killed June 17 while conducting combat operations in Qaim, Iraq. Robert was born in Limestone, Maine.

Daniel was assigned as a staff officer with the 368th Engineers in Kuwait until he was diagnosed with an illness and evacuated to Walter Reed. Thank you Daniel for your service and sacrifice.

Daniel was assigned as a staff officer with the 368th Engineers in Kuwait until he was diagnosed with an illness and evacuated to Walter Reed.

Today The Summit Project remembers the life and service of Army Capt. John R. “Jay” Brainard III, 26, of Newport and Atkinson, Maine; assigned to 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, Ansbach-Katterbach, Germany; who died on this day in 2012 in Kabul, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his AH-64 Apache helicopter was shot down from enemy fire. Thank you Jay for your service and sacrifice.

Army Capt. John R. “Jay” Brainard III – The Summit Project 26, of Newport and Atkinson, Maine; assigned to 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, Ansbach-Katterbach, Germany; died May 28, 2012 in Kabul, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his AH-64 Apache helicopter was shot down from enemy fire. Also killed was Army Chief Warrant Officer Five John C. Pratt.

Today The Summit Project remembers 2nd Lt. Tara Utecht Davis, Air National Guard, 33, who passed away on May 27, 2023, at a Bangor hospital after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. We thank you, Tara, for your service and sacrifice.
