💙 #MoreThanJustAStore #90YearsOfGood We help people with and without barriers – including disability, food or housing insecurity, mental illness, domestic violence, addiction and more – find meaningful employment and reach personal stability. Goodwill NNE revenue helps fund our workforce services, which support more than 10,000 people each year. This includes job training and career placements and providing jobs directly through our retail stores. Our stores sell affordable goods donated by members of communities across our three-state service area. In addition to providing flexible, stable jobs, our stores divert 50+ million pounds of donated goods from landfills annually in Maine, New Hampshire and northern Vermont. Our more than 90 years of providing workforce services to more than a million individuals has shown us – that for many people – getting and keeping a good job requires much more than a well-written resume. Barriers to successful employment – including housing insecurity, mental illness, domestic violence, and addiction – can all lower aspirations and interfere with success. We work with job seekers to identify what a good job would be for them, not only in terms of salary, but also in terms of personal satisfaction and pride. In some cases, we need to start by helping our clients identify any barriers that need to be removed before finding the “right” job is realistic. For job seekers with multiple barriers, we use a team approach that combines life navigation provided by a counselor with the expertise of a career advisor who focuses on skills assessment, career exploration and training (as needed). Together, the team helps their clients remove barriers to successful employment so they can build a sustainable future. This wraparound model addresses the root causes of our clients' past unsuccessful employment and helps to move them into personal stability. Through Goodwill Northern New England's AmeriCorps VISTA Partnership, individuals have the opportunity to build professional skills while helping nonprofit organizations strengthen their communities. For Inti, a Development Associate at Nashua PAL, that experience helped her discover a deeper sense of purpose.
In her role, Inti supports projects that advance Nashua PAL's mission through marketing, communications, fundraising, and community outreach. Along the way, she's gained valuable experience, built meaningful connections, and seen firsthand the impact her work can have on young people and families.
"It's helping people that really brings a lot of joy to me," Inti says.
For Inti, service has been about more than professional growth. Through her AmeriCorps VISTA service, she's developed new skills, grown her confidence, and discovered a passion for helping others succeed.
"The Goodwill Northern New England AmeriCorps program helped me find my purpose," she says.

Our Gorham store has a fresh new look, and you're invited to our reopening celebration! Join us tomorrow, September 10 at 9:00 am at 102 Main Street in Gorham for a ribbon cutting ceremony, exciting giveaways, and community fun. Plus, the first 50 shoppers through the doors will receive a $10 Goodwill NNE gift card! Meet Sarah, a Sales Associate at our Ellsworth store who helps create a positive experience for customers every day while supporting Goodwill Northern New England's mission.
By helping customers find items they'll love, Sarah plays a part in turning donations into opportunities that benefit communities across northern New England.
What motivates her most? Being part of a welcoming environment and seeing people leave happy knowing they've found secondhand items that will have a new home.
"I like working here at Goodwill because it means a lot to me. I like the environment and the community, and I like seeing people come in and leave happy with secondhand items that find a good home."
For Sarah, the opportunity to be part of a supportive workplace and connect with members of her community makes her work especially meaningful. Every shift is a chance to help people, support Goodwill's mission, and create a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through the door.
Sarah is proud to be part of a team that works together to make a positive impact while serving the Ellsworth community.
