This Sunday, September 27, is World Rivers Day, a global celebration highlighting the many ways rivers enrich our lives and encouraging communities to take action to protect them. Celebrated on the fourth Sunday of September, World Rivers Day brings people together for activities ranging from river cleanups to educational events.

One way to celebrate? Spend part of your weekend caring for a local river or waterway at a SOLVE volunteer event. Join us in caring for Oregon and SW Washington’s rivers and waterways, one cleanup at a time. 💙

Throwback Thursday! 💧 Last week, 27 volunteers came out to High Rocks Park for a litter cleanup along the Clackamas River, collecting approximately 750 pounds of trash together.

A big thank you to everyone who helped care for this special stretch of the river, and to @ Water Environment Services for partnering with us!

And with World Rivers Day coming up this Sunday, there’s no better time to celebrate our waterways by taking action. 🌊

National Public Lands Day is a chance to get outside and give back to the parks, trails, waterways, forests, and other public spaces we all share. 🌲

This Saturday, September 26, communities across the country will come together for a day of volunteering and caring for public lands. This year’s theme, Caring for Our Shared America, is a reminder that these places are shared spaces, and keeping them clean and healthy takes all of us.

✨Coastal Leader Spotlight: Sand Lake ✨

For more than 11 years, Jasmine and her family have brought their community together for SOLVE cleanups at Sand Lake, carrying on a tradition that spans generations.

What began with her and her husband volunteering as teenagers has grown into a family tradition, with parents, children, and local families coming together to care for the coast! 🌊

Thank you Jasmine and to all the volunteers who continue to show up and keep this tradition alive!

SOLVE partners with companies of all sizes to create meaningful, hands-on opportunities that make a lasting difference. On September 18, Dollar Tree partnered with SOLVE in collaboration with Keep America Beautiful to remove litter from Cathedral Park.

Located along the Willamette River, Cathedral Park is an important riverfront greenspace, and every piece of litter collected helps prevent trash from entering our waterways and impacting fish, wildlife, and water quality.

Thank you, Dollar Tree, for turning kindness into action! We're grateful for your partnership and the positive impact your team made for everyone who enjoys this park.

Join us for Pick It Up, Bend! on Sunday, September 27, at the Old Mill District for a morning cleanup along the Deschutes River.

And there’s an extra reason to join us: everyone who participates in the cleanup will be entered into a drawing for two tickets to Jack Johnson’s sold-out concert at Hayden Homes Amphitheater that evening! 🙌

Come spend your Sunday morning outside, give back to the Bend community, and maybe cap off the day with some live music.

Why do you volunteer?

“I saw all the trash outside my favorite neighborhood businesses and realized the small business owners don’t have time to take care of it. I thought, as a community member, I should step up. These regular, hyper-local cleanup events help cultivate community. When we come together, we build stronger communities and keep them clean” 💚
