OEC is making an impact in our community with Community Energy Project 💪 🌱

Our staff had a blast joining forces with Community Energy Project to work on home repairs and improvements for a Portland resident. Through rolling up our sleeves, we were reminded of what’s possible when organizations come together around a common purpose, that many hands make light work, and a few hours of effort can have a big effect on an individual's life.

Thanks to the CEP crew for having us out — we can’t wait for our next day of service!

Oregon lawmakers demand accountability after study finds toxic chemicals in most braiding hair products 05/27/2026

When OEC helped pass the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act in 2023, a key focus of the legislation was protecting Oregon's most marginalized communities from toxics in the products they use. This new study clearly shows the deeply engrained environmental racism that makes the policy so critical. OHA is set to adopt the new rules by January 1, 2027 — when they do, it's imperative that braiding hair products are covered in the scope, and kept free from heavy metals and harmful organic compounds.

Firefighters face the threat of toxins in protective gear 04/30/2026

Firefighters shouldn't be exposed to cancer-causing "forever chemicals" in their lifesaving work. We're glad that Oregon has committed to getting PFAS out of the turnout gear that protects our firefighters in the line of duty, and we look forward to the official transition to PFAS-free PPE.

Firefighters face the threat of toxins in protective gear State and local jurisdictions are moving to ban forever chemicals in the protective gear they wear on the job.

Transportation doesn't just impact the environment. It also plays a big part in our personal, day-to-day lives.

While tabling at the City of Portland's Earth in Motion event, we asked attendees to share their favorite music for getting around — from blasting in their EVs, to listening on headphone while riding public transit. City councilors, environmental advocates, OEC staff, everyday Oregonians shared their songs with us. Check out our transportation playlist here!

Oregon’s ambitious greenhouse gas reduction program faces a fresh legal challenge 04/17/2026

And yet another example of big polluters putting profit over people: Yesterday, Oregon Business & Industry sued to overturn Oregon's landmark Climate Protection Program. OEC, and a large coalition of business, health, and environmental groups across the state, stand against the lawsuit and in full support of this essential program.
