There’s something special happening at the intersection of art, food, and community this season.

Across Maine, artists are coming together to create handmade bowls that will help support access to fresh, local food, and you can be part of it. Maine Clay is opening its studio doors for a series of free, hands-on make-a-thons, welcoming anyone curious about ceramics to jump in and contribute.

Upcoming sessions are May 1st, 5-7pm. May 3rd 2-4pm, June 5th 5-7pm.

Each bowl created will go on to support Maine Harvest Bucks, helping stretch SNAP dollars at farmers’ markets while ensuring farmers are paid fairly for their work.

If you’ve been meaning to try clay, or just want to take part in something meaningful, this is a great way to get involved. Keep an eye out for more events popping up at markets and studios across the state as the season unfolds.

Untold stories left out of the history books

Both a fantastic historical overview of Portland and an exploration into previously hidden stories, you’ll see where Indigenous Wabanaki leaders made their earliest relationships with European colonizers and walk through centuries of destruction and revival into the present.
Trusted and entertaining historian Dugan Murphy presents an inclusive, empowering, and surprising constellation of tales totally unlike the obvious themes you get on other tours.
2 hours 1.5 miles, 15 people max per tour most days April–November. Book a reservation in advance – tours regularly sell out. Full tour description, details, FAQ, and online booking calendar available on the Portland by the Foot website: www.portlandbythefoot.com
