The Portland Buy Local campaign is an effort to raise public awareness of the benefits of supporting locally owned, independent businesses.

As our Local Season campaign comes to a close, we want to say one thing: thank you. You showed up in a big way, and every local purchase, meal, and visit helped carry our neighbors through the toughest months of the year.

While the campaign is ending, supporting local businesses doesn’t stop here. Winter is the most challenging time of year for small businesses. But even when the tourists return, locals are still the lifeline that keeps our businesses going year round.

Choosing a locally owned business strengthens the entire local economy. Research shows that independent retailers return about 53% of their revenue back into the local economy, more than three times the 14% returned by national chains.

With Local Season wrapping up, we invite everyone to make a simple commitment: choose local first, all year long. Let’s finish Local Season the same way we started it: together.

While some of our local businesses will offer Small Business Saturday sales, others simply can’t. After a slower-than-usual summer, rising costs, new tariffs, and an uncertain economy, discounts aren’t always possible. And even when they are, they often come at a cost. Bottom line, our local businesses depend on strong holiday sales to carry them through the winter.

Today isn’t about bargains. It’s about celebrating the local, small businesses that enrich our community all year long. So, this Small Business Saturday, remember shopping local isn’t a one-day event. It’s an investment in the businesses that give our community its identity, creativity, and soul.

Love where you live? Support the businesses who keep our community thriving. Choose Local First.
