First, thanks a ton to everyone who has recently followed our pages! We really appreciate the support and want to welcome all of you. With so many new followers, it’s a great time for a little introduction.

Since 1943, the Oak Ridge Community Band has been a big part of our community’s cultural vibe. It started during the secretive days of the Manhattan Project, and over the years, it’s become a beloved institution. Rehearsals kicked off in November 1943 at the high school, and by the summer of 1944, a group of local residents, all passionate about concert band music, came together to celebrate Independence Day with an energetic performance.

At first, we were a municipal band run by the city, but we faced some challenges with membership. Then, in the 1960s, Steve "Doc" Combs, the high school band director, inspired a revival, leading the Oak Ridge Community Band to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit by 1980.

Thanks to the dedication and talent of our members, we’ve built a musical legacy that continues to spread joy and bring people together in our community. Join us in honoring this amazing tradition and experience the magic of music!
