Oak Ridge Neighborhood Watch Program

The Oak Ridge Neighborhood Watch Program’s first Community Meeting of 2020 will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, in the Civic Center Room B (near the craft room).

Lieutenant Shannah Newman from the Oak Ridge Police Department will speak about Project Lifesaver (PLS). Project Lifesaver is a nationwide program with the goal of saving lives and reducing potential injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, Down Syndrome or other related conditions. If you or someone you know is a caregiver of a potential client, be sure to come find out about this free program. Pass the word and bring a friend or neighbor!

We are also seeking candy donations and walkers for ORNWP's participation in the Oak Ridge Christmas Parade. Police Chief to Speak About Neighborhood Watch tonight!!

Reminder: the rescheduled ORNWP Member's Appreciation Dinner will be held this Tuesday. Come join us!

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a police officer?

The Oak Ridge Police Department will be conducting a Citizen’s Police Academy starting in February. The class will meet every Tuesday from February 19 through April 23, 2019. The Academy is open to adults 18 and older. Selection will be on a first come, first served basis, with priority to Oak Ridge residents. Due to the law-enforcement-sensitive training and handling of weapons, a criminal history check will be done by the department. A Release of Liability form will be required for admission to the program. The Citizen’s Police Academy application and the release of liability form can be accessed online (http://www.oakridgetn.gov/department/ORPD/Home) and printed at home or picked up at the Records Division of the Oak Ridge Police Department.

Completed applications and forms can be submitted by mail or dropped off in person. Applicants will be informed of acceptance into the program and given specific times and locations for class. ORNWP Dinner POSTPONED Until Feb. 12!

Because of adverse weather predictions for tomorrow, and for the safety of our membership, the ORNWP members appreciation dinner has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. We hope you will plan to attend and invite anyone interested in starting or expanding a neighborhood watch program.

The Oak Ridge Christmas parade is coming up on Saturday, December 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. Parade participants will start lining up at 4:30 @ Corporate Center (151 Lafayette Dr). The theme for this year’s parade is “A FANTASY OF LIGHTS.”

For ORNWP to be in the parade, volunteers are needed. If you are interested in working on a float, please contact Colin as soon as possible ([email protected] or 865-264-3538). If we want a float, we will need the means to pull it and a driver. With a float, we would be able to seat up to 4 people. In any case, we would like 3 volunteers to carry the ORNWP banner and 6 to walk in the parade (some to hand out candy). We welcome donations of individually-wrapped candy. You may bring candy to the Dec. 4 meeting or drop off at 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike no later than Friday, December 7. Thank you!

Our next ORNWP community meeting will be on Tuesday, December 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Oak Ridge Library Auditorium. Come meet the new Oak Ridge Police Chief, Robin Smith, who will be introduced and say a few words at the beginning. The main presenter will be Fire Marshal Travis Solomon of the Oak Ridge Fire Department. He will talk about fire safety. Invite a neighbor or friend.
