WE WANT YOUR BUTTS! Or at least a chance to chat with you about how to dispose/recycle cigarette butts properly! We’ll be in the courtyard at the Oak Ridge Recreation Center for Atomic Fall Fest this Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27.
Thanks to a grant from Keep America Beautiful, and in conjunction with Terracycle, we are hoping to place cigarette butt receptacles in Anderson County where they are most needed.

Butts Wanted in Anderson County!
Cigarette butts are the #1 littered item in America and leave a trail of damage as they deteriorate. They leak toxins into our water and soil, are consumed by wildlife, and have filters made of plastic that are reduced into microplastics.
Keep Anderson County Beautiful is back with our Butts Wanted campaign. We’re placing new recycling bins across the county so cigarette butts can be collected and, with the help of volunteers, recycled through Terracycle.
Visit our booth in Oak Ridge at the Atomic Fall Fest, Sept. 26–27 and help us choose the best locations for these new bins in YOUR part of the county. Together, we can keep Anderson County clean, safe, and beautiful.

The elimination of recycling collection will be a disappointment for Norris residents who have been diligently and proudly working to manage recyclable trash appropriately.
The Norris City Council has made the decision to discontinue residential recycling pickup, along with switching to curbside trash service only, starting July 1. This change is due to a new contract with the current provider, Waste Collections, Inc., which does not include back-door trash pickup services. While the council had the option to include biweekly recycling pickups in the contract, this would have resulted in a higher monthly fee for residents.
