It's been one week with Kenny 😍 but what a week it has been…
This short, snorty boy came to us from a partnering shelter after we spotted his ever so handsome mug. At the shelter, he was reported to have a mild heart murmur, but otherwise was a very good boy.
Much to our surprise, we quickly noticed that Kenny was dealing with more than just a heart murmur. The evening he arrived, he spent the night at the ER being evaluated for labored breathing and limping on his hind leg. What we've learned so far is that Kenny is quite the medical mess. He was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia, a grade 3 heart murmur, a possible sliding hiatal hernia, and avascular necrosis of his left hip.
Kenny will be headed to Main Line Veterinary Specialists in two weeks to have both a cardiology consult and a surgical consult. Following his visit, we will hopefully have more definitive answers and a plan for his care moving forward.
Until then, he will be crashing with his foster family and getting some much needed attention on his extra dirty/infected ears. We've heard he's an affectionate guy who loves snuggles and being with his people.
This boy has expensive taste, so we really could use some help with his care! If you can lend a paw to our handsome new guy, he would appreciate the support.
Welcome to the PLP family, Kenny! ❤️🐾 Better days ahead!

Life is expensive. 😵💫
Fostering is FREE.
That’s right - PLP provides all necessary supplies, covers the medical expenses, and we even throw in the puppy snuggles on the house. 🥰
As an entirely foster-based organization, PLP can only take dogs in when we have a suitable match in a foster home where we can place them. If you love dogs and have room for one to crash for a little while, the need right now is larger than ever. During their time in foster care, you provide the love and daily care while you help us determine what their perfect forever home looks like. Our board members and our incredible team of existing fosters are there to support you through it all.
If you are interested in fostering, there is a dog out there who needs you. Our foster application can be found on our website at www.pittieslovepeace.com. Fostering truly saves lives, so if you live in central PA, please consider joining the PLP family.

Ring the bell! 🔔
Last week, we were contacted about two pups looking for rescue. The boys are estimated to be about 8 weeks old and already quite the handsome duo. Fortunately, we had some puppy fosters available that were waving them home, so we were able to add them to our roster. We have ‘high hopes’ that these guys will be an all-star lineup. We’ll do our part to help them advance to the next round after some spring training, which will include getting them up to date on vaccines and neutered. While on deck, we’ll get to know more about them and what they’re looking for in their forever homes. We’ll be sure to share what we learn when they’re ready to step up to the plate and swing for the fences.
Welcome to the PLP family, Bryce and Trea! ❤️

Adoptable Blue is recovering from his gastropexy and skin tag removal earlier this week. During his procedures, our vets also discovered a sewing needle that had perforated his stomach and was sticking halfway out. We have no idea how long that may have been in there, but we’re glad it was found so it could be removed. Luckily, Blue has a perfect recovery buddy in his foster brother to snuggle with until he feels better. He is now ready for his forever family to come along and get the rest of his life started! 🥰

Last week, one of our shelter partners reached out about a 2-year old, female, pocket pittie. At just around 40lbs, she came to the shelter covered in scars, but still so sweet. One of our amazing foster families stepped up and bailed her out of the shelter last Friday. They said that she is as sweet as advertised, but also smart and eager to please. She is doing great with other dogs and small children in her foster home. She is up to date on medical care and working hard at house training and learning the basics, as it is suspected she lived much of her prior life in a crate. As we get to know more about her, we’ll be sure to share the updates. We can’t wait to see this little beauty blossom!

‼️ Nookie update ‼️
Earlier this week, Nookie went on a road trip to see the incredible team at Fusion Veterinary Orthopedics in Lanham, Maryland. Specializing in angular limb deformity, Dr. Dycus met with Nookie and his foster mom, took x-rays, and helped us to determine a plan for our special little guy.
The short version is that Nookie is a complex case. There are multiple types of deformities that can occur in the legs and sweet Nookie is affected at all joints. He has twisting and bowing in his forelimbs, and further twisting in his wrists. Right now, things are growing congruently, so there is no need for immediate intervention. In order to stay up to date on Nookie’s conformation as he grows, he will need to go back to see our friends at Fusion for monthly X-rays and check-ins. If any of his leg bones start growing at different rates, surgery may need to be done to remove part of the rapidly growing bone. As he reaches his adult conformation, we will then get a CT scan to get a more detailed and definitive look at his bones to determine the next steps in his care. After getting a CT scan, the vets will 3D prints replicas of Nookie’s legs and develop a specific surgical plan if he's a candidate.
While there, we also learned that Nookie has a right Tibial Tuberosity Avulsion fracture right along a growth plate. Intervention can involve corrective surgery, but because Nookie is currently bearing weight, the specialist advised following 2 more weeks of strict crate rest to see if the fracture will heal on its own. If it does not, then we will be considering surgery to place two pins in his leg to stabilize it as he grows.
Thankfully, despite his complicated bone structure, Nookie has a 5-star personality. At this time, we cannot predict a timeline for when he would become adoptable as our primary concern is addressing his medical needs. We know he’s developing quite the fan club, so we’ll continue to share updates as we have them. ❤️

There’s a new kid in town!
Meet Guapo! This 3 year old French bulldog joined us this weekend as an owner surrender. He is currently getting settled into his foster home where he has been sweet, silly, and playful. He comes to us with a history of IVDD, which is a disc disease common to his breed. He is not currently experiencing a flare up, but we will be closely monitoring to determine if any further interventions are needed. He is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped, so we’ll just be getting to know him, his needs, and what his forever home may look like. We’re sure this frenchie will waste no time showing us his personality! 🤪
Welcome to the PLP family, Guapo! ❤️🐾

Last week, we received a surrender request for a sweet 1.5 year old girl due to no fault of her own. She came from a loving household that, unfortunately, due to family circumstances was not able to provide her the attention they felt she deserved and made the decision to rehome her. We had an open foster anxious to get involved, so we welcomed her over the weekend. So far, she has been a complete cuddle bug and generally an easy dog. She is up to date on medical care, spayed, and microchipped, so all that’s left for us to do is learn what her dream home would you like. As she settles in, we’ll be sure to share those updates. Until then, just look at this smiley gal! 😃
