We had so much fun this morning! Mrs Bri and Goober taught us that our fight is not against each other but against the devil. And Ms. Derya taught us that we are not alone in our fight against the enemy: God is always on our side!

Since next week is BGMC, we celebrated Pentecost Sunday this Sunday.
Pentecost Sunday was one of the seven feasts God started in the Old Testament. And it was on the day of Pentecost (50 days after Passover), that God poured out his Spirit upon his church. He anointed his church with the power and prescense of the Holy Spirit just like he did to his tabernacle and his temple in the Old Testament.
The Holy Spirit is a gift given to this world to continue the work of Jesus. God has always desired for his Spirit to be WITH us, IN us and UPON us. He is WITH us to convict us of our sin and draw us to the open arms of Jesus. He is IN us to bring about the salvation expereince known as being born-again and to live inside of us. And he is UPON us to baptize us into the power of God to be his witnesses.
This power he gives us helps us to live right and obey God's word. It helps us to live supernaturally as there is a supernatural world alongside our natural world. And it helps us to live a mission by bringing the message of Jesus in a more effective and powerful way. This baptism is for ALL believers and not for just a specail few.
The evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is internal as God's presence fills you to overflowing from the inside out. It is also physical evidence as those who are baptized show a verbal response and will speak in other tongues as the Spirit enables them.
Some people may find the baptism of the Holy Spirit a strange or weird thing. It did to the people who first witnessed the disciples being baptized. Jesus spit in dirt to form mud and placed it on a man's eyes in order to heal him of blindness. Why did he do that? That was weird! God's ways are not our ways and many times we may fell uncomfortable, strange or weird when obeying God. As long as the bible shows this is how God works, it does not really matter how we feel about it. We need to follow it. Jesus is the baptizer and he wants to baptize you in the Holy Spirit.

DON'T LOOK BACK, LOOK FOWARD
Sunday's lesson focused on the story of Lot and his family leaving S***m and Gomorrah. The people of S***m and Gomorrah did evil in God's eyes. They did whatever they felt was pleasurable andright in their eyes. They did not cosider God's ways at all! The actions of the people rose up to God like sticky garbage. The smell was so bad that it made God sick and He had enough! But God is merciful and was willing to forgive the peole if they would repent. Unfortunately, the people would not repent so God had to bring judgment, kinda like when your parents punishing you when you repeatedly refuse to listen to there directions.
Abraham had a heart like God so he prayed for the people. He asked if there were 100 people, who would obey God in either of the the two cities, would God save the city? And God said yes. But there was not 100 people. Abraham asked for 50 people all the way down to 10 people and God's answer remained the same. Yes, He would save the city if there were people obeying Him. But there were not. So God had to bring judgement. Before He acted He sent angels to get Lot and his family out of there. Lot had decided to make his home near S***m and Gomorrah. So the angels got Lot and his family out of the city and told them to run, keep going but DO NOT LOOK BACK! Unfortunately, Lot's wife looked back and she turned into a pillar of salt. Lot andthe rest of his family was saved.
1. Temptation and sin will try to pull us back
First of all the problem was that Lot and his family chose to live near tempting and sinful cities. They were taking a big risk that the ways of the cities would get into them and become a stumbling block. Instead, live a life that is no where near sin and temptation. Do your best to avoid them. They will come but do not make it where you live! Temptation and sin should not be your home.
2. We must run from evil and don't look back
Temptation and sin will try to pull you back to the garbage but Jesus has a plan, destiny and purpose for your life. Run from the garbage and look forward to what Jesus has for you. Do not sacrifice your eternal reward and purpose for throw-away garbage. That would really stink!
3. We must keep our eyes on Jesus
Keep you eyes looking FORWARD. Do not look back! Give up your old ways and embrace the new life Jesus has for you. Learn to discover the joy of your faith and relationship with Jesus. Run for the prize.
God wants to get rid of the garbage and not you. You are more important to him. God will take out the garbage. So let go of the garbage and embrace Jesus. He is your reward.

BGMC Sunday!
JONAH The 2nd Chance Missionary
Jonah 1:1-3, 3:1
Jonah was a prophet of God. He spoke God's word to the people. God wanted Jonah to go to Niniveha and preach His word. But Jonah was angry because he thought God was wrong. Jonah wanted to see the wicked people of Niniveha get what they deserved and be punished by God. But God is merciful, kind, forgiving and gracious and Jonah knew that.
1. Jonah Flees From God
God called Jonah to go to Niniveha but Jonah chose to go to Tarshish. He wnet the complete opposite direction of what God told him. Jonah was disobedient. He went as far as he could go until he ran into a sea so he bought a fare and got on a boat. He went down into the belly of the boat and thought nobody could find him here. Jonah felt safe so that he could fall into a deep sleep.
2. Trouble Comes
However, God sees all. So God sent a storm to get Jonah's attention. God will allow trouble to come your way to wake you up from your sense of false safety. Trouble will follow disobedience.
God uses trouble to cause you to STOP! Turn around and go back in the right direction. This is what is called repentance. God allows trouble so we will stop our disagreement with God, repent and agree with Him.
3. Acknowledge Your Sin
Jonah admitted that He was a child of God and he belonged to God. He confessed that he was disobedient to God and if the crew would throw him overboard, peaces will be restored.
You need to remember who you are and whose you are. You belong to God. Admit your wrong doing. Confess your sin. Abandon yourself to the mercy of God. Have faith that God will catch you. God will restore peace to you.
4. Receive Grace
Jonah knew he was lost in the sea. But God was faithful to receive Jonah and save him by keeping him in the belly of a fish. For 3 days, Jonah had time to reflect and prayed a prayer that exalts God's grace.
God hears you when you pray, especially when you repent and confess your sins. You may be put into a "time out" which is a holding pattern but it is a time to listen to what God is telling you. He will forgive, restore and ressurect you. Salvation comes from the Lord.
5. 2nd Chance Mission
The word of the Lord came a second time to Jonah. This time Jonah obeyed and went. He shared the message of the Lord with the people of Niniveha and they repented too.
When your relatiosnhip with the Lord is restored, you begin walking in the right direction and are a testimony of His grace. Share the message of grace with others. It is God's will that everyone knows about His grace. He has commissioned/sent us to all the world to tell them. Be a 2nd Chance Missionary.

Check it out! We received a plaque and crystal ball for our 2016 BGMC giving at our District Council this year. We came in 2nd place in Division 4 and by giving $12,921!! Then we received a special award called the Gideon Award which was an enormous sword. We received this award because for the last 4 years we have given over $8000. ($16,706, $12,759, and $15,290). A BIG thank you goes to the Tabernacle family for giving to missions and to Pastor Mark for designating those dollars to BGMC. I am proud that IGNITE Kids surpassed last year's goal and gave $1,119. Great job! Let's keep it going in 2017.
This year's plaque is hanging in the office hallway and the older ones are at our checkin. The sword is hanging in my office. Too cool!
