As everyone celebrates the Fourth of July weekend, the Morgan County Rescue Squad will be patrolling the Tennessee River to assist boaters and help keep everyone safe.

If you need emergency assistance on the water, please call 911 immediately. For non-emergency assistance, contact dispatch 256-350-4613.

Please remember to wear your life jacket—it could save your life. With high temperatures and a dangerous heat index expected, be sure to drink plenty of water, stay hydrated, and take precautions to avoid heat-related illness.

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Morgan County Rescue Squad was dispatched to Hickory Hills Boat Ramp regarding a truck and boat trailer that had rolled backward into the water and become submerged.

Morgan County Rescue Squad personnel met with the vehicle owner at the boat ramp. Members of the Rescue Squad Dive Team entered the water and successfully attached recovery equipment to the submerged truck and trailer. Working alongside a wrecker service, the vehicle and trailer were safely removed from the water without incident.

On Saturday, June 6, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Morgan County Rescue Squad was dispatched to a report of a capsized boat on the Tennessee River near Mile Marker 304, in the area of Jay's Landing.

The individual operating the boat was rescued by occupants of a vessel that was traveling behind them. The operator was transported back to Ingalls Harbor by the assisting vessel's occupants and then drove to a local hospital for evaluation of possible injuries. No further information is available regarding the operator's condition or injuries.

Morgan County Rescue Squad personnel located the capsized vessel and safely towed it back to Ingalls Harbor. Upon arrival, the Alabama State Trooper Marine Patrol Division assumed responsibility for the incident and continued the investigation.

**PRESS RELEASE **

Approximately 10:00 AM on April 13 th
Boat Wreck on Tennessee River Near Mile Marker 306
On the above date and time, Morgan County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a boat wreck with injuries on the Tennessee River at mile marker 306, near the Wolverine Plant on the north side of the river.
Initial reports indicated that a single occupant had been thrown from a bass boat and sustained what appeared to be a broken arm.
Morgan County Central Dispatch dispatched Decatur Fire & Rescue, Morgan County Rescue Squad, Decatur Morgan Ambulance, and the Alabama State Trooper Marine Patrol Division to the scene.
Decatur Fire & Rescue Marine 1 and Morgan County Rescue Squad boat's arrived on scene shortly thereafter. Decatur Fire & Rescue Marine 1 personnel were able to quickly remove the patient from the water.
The patient was transported by boat to Riverwalk Marina, where additional responders and Decatur Morgan Ambulance were standing by. The patient was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The Morgan County Rescue Squad remained on scene with the damaged vessel until the arrival of the Alabama State Trooper Marine Patrol Division, who will be conducting the investigation. Following release of the scene, the Rescue Squad towed the vessel to Ingalls Harbor.

Morgan County Rescue Squad Responds to Boat Wreck on Tennessee River

At approximately 1:00 PM today, Morgan County Central Dispatch paged out the Morgan County Rescue Squad in response to an boat wreck located on the Tennessee River near mile marker 306, in the vicinity of the GE plant on the south side of the river.

While units were en route, dispatch updated responding personnel that the incident had been confirmed as a boat wreck with one reported injury.

Upon arrival, Morgan County Rescue Squad boats located the involved vessel and patient. The injured individual was transported by a nearby boater to the nearby GE plant boat ramp, where Decatur Fire and Rescue and Decatur Morgan Ambulance provided patient care. The patient was subsequently transported by ambulance to Decatur Morgan Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The Morgan County Rescue Squad remained on scene awaiting the arrival of the Alabama State Trooper Marine Patrol Division to conduct the official investigation.

Following the completion of the investigation by Alabama State Troopers, rescue squad personnel assisted by towing the wrecked vessel to Ingalls Harbor.

Preliminary information gathered from individuals involved in the incident indicates the boat may have struck an object beneath the water’s surface, causing it to overturn multiple times. All three occupants were ejected into the water. Nearby boaters of the incident, stopped to assist, and contacted 911, providing updates to dispatch until emergency responders arrived.
